World Record-Holding Amputee to Climb Colorado Mountain With Just Her Hands for a Friend

Mandy Horvath, the amputee mountaineer, demonstrates the power of resilience and willpower once more as she embarks on a challenging journey to support her friend. She set out to conquer Handies Peak in Colorado to raise funds, demonstrating her humane side. Let’s delve deep to explore Horvath’s story.

A challenging task for Horvath

Horvath, whose legs have been amputated above the knee, was set to conquer the peak without any external assistance. The ascent was set to be held on October 12 and 13 to support one of her close friends, Brian Adams. When asked about the challenging task, Horvath said, ‘Brian gives back to his community… That is why we are committed to helping him in his time of need.’

Brian was diagnosed with a fatal disease

Recently, Brian Adams, the host of the 101.1 The Fox in Kansas City, was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer named Acute Myeloid Leukemia or AML. The incident brought back emotions for Horvath, who had a distressing memory connected to the illness, prompting her to assist her friend.

Horvath’s excruciating memory

Horvath, the first woman in the world to ascend Mount Kilimanjaro, discovered that her grandmother was suffering from AML. Her grandmother passed away days after the diagnosis, leaving her devastated. Recalling the painful moment, Horvath decided to climb the peak with her hands.
