In a nail-biting 2023 French Open final, Iga Swiatek was finally able to crush all hopes of the defiant Karolina Muchova. With the win, she registered her fourth Grand Slam victory. With the win, the Polish tennis superstar registered her name among the likes of Roger Federer, Naomi Osaka, and Monica Seles, in creating a unique record.

The game of the 22-year-old was something akin to ‘beauty and beast’ in the first set. Swiatek showed precision and beauty in the execution of her shots. But her game was bestial too, given how mercilessly she dealt with the Czech star. As the Czech star rose to make a comeback, Swiatek geared to upset all her efforts. She won the match with 6-2 5-7 6-4.

As Iga Swiatek lifted her trophy in France, she wrote her name among the stars who have won each of their first four major finals. It is not just a glimpse of her quality so far but also a snapshot of how far her career shall proceed in the future. The Swiss Maestro too was able to register his first four major final wins. Former World No.1 and Japanese tennis star Naomi Osaka too shares this record, along with former American tennis star Monica Seles.

But who knows if Swiatek’s quick and athletic gait would take her even past these greats of the sport. If she was able to break the Serena Williams record of staying at the top for the most weeks consecutively, she can well break Federer’s record as well.

Swiatek in the company of Serena Williams

Her hunger for Grand Slam victories is only matched by her thirst for breaking longstanding records. Iga Swiatek recently broke the Serena Williams record of staying at the top of the WTA rankings for 58 consecutive weeks. But the Pole star doesn’t seem satisfied. With the Roland Garros win, she registered yet another record. She became the youngest WTA champion after Serena Williams to win four Grand Slams. Serena Williams achieved the feat in 2002 at the age of 20. Iga Swiatek is slightly far behind to do it at 22.
