A’ja Wilson produced another brilliant performance, helping the Las Vegas Aces knock the Indiana Fever out of the playoffs in back-to-back seasons. However, that showcase came after serious reflection following her Game 2 altercation with an Indiana Fever fan.

Speaking at the post-game press conference following the Aces’ 94-83 victory over the Fever, Wilson revealed how she did not let her emotions and frustrations from two nights ago carry over into the do-or-die game at home, which helped to lead the Aces with 36 points, 10 rebounds, two blocks, and an assist, shooting 11-of-18 from the field.

“Honestly, I had my days. I had my moment, cuz I’m human. But after a while, I understood that I didn’t want that to be a distraction to myself and to my team, and I knew what we had to do coming into tonight. So, I put it behind me.”

Wilson revealed her mindset during the post-game press conference uploaded on the Las Vegas Aces’ YouTube channel, when asked whether she used the incident with the fan as fuel or completely put it to bed.

“I prayed a lot. I cried a lot. I talked to a lot of different people, and the amount of love that I received today, the amount of Bible verses I received today, reminded me that I’m covered.”

“So I can’t really worry about anything else. And I’m so grateful to be surrounded by people that could constantly lift me up. So once I put that on the back burner, I had to come up; I had to show up for my team today, and I’m glad we got the win.”

This infamous incident happened in the dying minutes of Game 2 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, when Wilson had an out-of-character moment. With 4:10 remaining in the fourth quarter and the Fever leading 88-77, Wilson got caught up in an off-ball battle with Fever guard Sophie Cunningham.

Following the sequence, a foul was called on Cunningham, who fell to the floor after trying to navigate a screen near the perimeter. While she was protesting the call, a fan stood up and started pointing towards her.

According to witnesses, he was saying that the foul should have been on the Aces star, not Cunningham. Wilson did not take kindly to the pointing gesture, and she started walking toward him while yelling.

The situation was about to escalate further when Sydney Colson and other teammates of Wilson stepped in to put a stop to it.

A’ja Wilson received a technical foul from the officials for “unsportsmanlike conduct,” but they did not eject her from the game. As for the fan, he was promptly returned to his seat after arena security did not find anything wrong with his actions either.

The Indiana Fever even released an official statement on this matter.

“Following a report of a comment directed toward a player, arena security spoke with the fan involved and witnesses. Security determined there was no violation of the Fan Code of Conduct, the fan was not removed from the arena. We consider the matter closed.”

However, Wilson saw the matter quite differently from her perspective and did not mince her words following the Game 2 loss against the Fever.

“I apologized to my team because I got us a tech. But it’s just certain things that I’m just not going to allow anymore because it’s just unacceptable.”

By the time Game 3 came along, all the four-time MVP cared about was winning the game and progressing to the semifinal. That’s what Wilson said in an interview immediately following the win.

“We kept saying, ‘Empty the tank, empty the tank.’ You have to do it on days like this.”

Now, the reigning champions will play the winner of the Golden State Valkyries and Dallas Wings in the semifinals, as A’ja Wilson and co. are once again the favorites to win the WNBA championship.

It seems that A’ja Wilson’s incident with a fan in Game 2 of the first-round series against the Indiana Fever left a lasting impact on her and her family. After Wilson was criticized by a section of fans and media for her behavior, Wilson’s mother’s decision to carry a sign on court after the Aces won the deciding Game 3 shifted the attention once again to the infamous incident from Game 2.

“LOVE beats HATE,” read the sign in capital letters and black ink, by Wilson’s mother, in a heart-shaped poster which was colored pink, per a clip posted by Outkick on X.

Spectators couldn’t help but draw a connection between this display by Wilson’s mother and the incident in the previous game. On Tuesday, with around four minutes left on the clock, A’ja Wilson was involved in a scuffle with Fever guard Sophie Cunningham, leading to Cunningham being assessed a foul. Wilson was then seen heading into the stands to confront a fan pointing at her, and the two were seen getting into an argument.

Wilson and the fan were separated by the officials, and the fan later returned to his seat after an inquiry by the Fever management, who mentioned that the code of conduct was not breached. A’ja Wilson was assessed a technical foul for “unsportsmanlike conduct”, but no further action was taken against her.

Aces HC Hammon felt that the fan’s conduct did not reflect the best standards.

“I think there’s a certain etiquette that both players and fans need to abide by, but clearly there’s something that gets- the lines get crossed, and it seems to happen here,” said Hammon after the game.

While Hammon might not think the issue required escalation, OutKick writer Jon Root believed that A’ja Wilson should have faced ejection. He quoted the 2026 WNBA rulebook, noting that a player moving into the stands during an active game should ideally face immediate ejection from the game.

On the other hand, Wilson too felt that the fan’s behaviour was inappropriate.

“If I see a man come at me, taking steps toward me and pointing at me, I don’t give a damn what you said. I don’t give a damn how you said it, the tone; that is unacceptable,” said Wilson.

“You don’t know me to step toward me and point at me. I’m not for that s*** at all. That there is unacceptable.”

While Wilson may have said she was “fine,” clearly the incident left a much bigger impact on her, as evidenced by her comments after the next game.

“I have my moments because I’m human,” Wilson said after winning the final game of the series on Thursday. “But after a while, I understood I didn’t want that to be a distraction to myself and my team, and I knew what we had to do coming into tonight. So I put it behind me. I prayed a lot. I cried a lot.”

In more good news for Wilson, she dropped 36 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double, and the Aces defeated the Fever in the postseason for a second year in a row. Now that the Aces are in the semifinals, having Wilson present for all games would be crucial. Any disciplinary action at this moment, which could have included suspension from game(s), would have been a setback for this Aces team, who have grown accustomed to Wilson carrying them through.

But she wasn’t the only one pushing the Aces to the must-win Game 3 victory. Chelsea Gray added 23 points and went 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. Jackie Young contributed another 18 points, in addition to eight rebounds and seven assists.

Las Vegas Aces will find out who their semifinal opponents are after the result of the Dallas Wings and GS Valkyries game on Friday. The winner of that semifinal will face either the Atlanta Dream or the New York Liberty.

Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever kept things competitive, but their 2026 playoff run has ended in the first round. The Fever came within striking distance of the Las Vegas Aces multiple times in Thursday night’s winner-take-all Game 3, cutting the deficit to just two points twice in the fourth quarter, before Las Vegas ultimately secured a 94-83 victory and returned to the WNBA playoff semifinals for the second time in a row.

Reacting to the result, Skip Bayless cut straight to what he believed was the defining truth of the evening: The Aces’ veteran championship core brought something the Fever, for all their talent and fight, simply could not match in the decisive moments.

“The truth was, for the Fever, A’ja Wilson and Chelsea Gray were just too much, just wanted it more, just made too many veteran championship shots,” Bayless wrote on X after the game.

And true to that assessment, A’ja Wilson and Chelsea Gray were key difference-makers. Wilson finished with 36 points on highly efficient 11-of-18 shooting, adding 10 rebounds, one assist, and two blocks. It was another masterclass in interior dominance that the Fever could not consistently disrupt or contain across the full 40 minutes.

Chelsea Gray was equally decisive, finishing with 23 points on 8-of-15 shooting alongside four rebounds, five assists, and a steal. Most critically, Gray delivered 16 of those 23 points in the fourth quarter alone. Her shot-making and composure at the free-throw line proved instrumental in the moments that determined the series.

It would, however, be inaccurate to suggest the Fever’s elimination reflected a lack of desire or competitive fire. The Indiana Fever played the game with urgency, and it was a physical, emotional contest from the opening tip. Caitlin Clark even picked up a technical foul early in the first quarter as a sign of how much was on the line for both sides.

Clark and the Fever’s core of Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston combined for 60 of Indiana’s 83 points. Clark contributed 18 points, two rebounds, four assists, two steals, and four blocks. Mitchell added 23 points alongside two rebounds, two assists, and a steal, and Boston delivered 19 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, and a steal.

What proved to be the gap in the end was execution. The Aces shot 45.3 per cent from the field compared with the Fever’s 38.5. Caitlin Clark, for example, shot just 6-of-18 from the floor and 3-of-12 from three-point range. Mitchell was similarly inefficient, going 7-of-23 and 3-of-11 from beyond the arc. On a night when the margin for error was this small, those shooting numbers left too many possessions unconverted.

The free-throw disparity compounded the problem. The Aces went 28-of-35 from the charity stripe, while the Fever managed 14-of-20, giving Las Vegas an ultimate 14-point advantage at the line that proved impossible to overcome.

When the Fever cut the deficit to 82-80 with three minutes remaining and appeared on the verge of completing a remarkable comeback, the Aces went on a 12-3 run to put the game out of reach. 10 of those 12 points were from free throws.

“It’s a game of margins. And they have 35 free throws, and we had 20… Interesting,” Coach Stephanie White said after the game.

But ultimately, the Aces were the more experienced, more efficient, and more composed team when everything was on the line. A’ja Wilson even explained their mindset in a post-game on-court interview.

“In these elimination games every possession counts, the value of 2 points matters… We kept saying, ‘Empty the tank, empty the tank.’ You have to do it on days like this.”

They will now advance to face the winner of the Golden State Valkyries versus Dallas Wings first-round series in the WNBA Playoff Semifinals. As for the Indiana Fever, the regular season was their most successful with their 28-16 run, becoming a franchise record. Meanwhile, the playoff run showed they belong in the conversation, and the experience of these moments will shape what comes next.

Despite the Las Vegas Aces winning the deciding game against the Indiana Fever on Thursday. the 94-83 win was dampened by one person’s comments on what they did even before the top-off. As before every game, the American national anthem was played, but the Aces were nowhere to be found on the court. OutKick writer Jon Root took immediate notice of this.

“The Las Vegas Aces sprint off the court before Game 3 vs Fever because they don’t want to honor our country & participate in the National Anthem…,” wrote Root on X.

In the clip that accompanied Root’s post, the Aces squad can be seen heading towards the tunnel as the arena gets ready for the national anthem. It’s not clear whether this was intentional, but the reaction was definitely not in their favor.

Standing up for the national anthem remains a touchy subject in the WNBA. Previously, during the 2020 season, Connecticut Sun’s Brittney Griner asked to remove the national anthem from the league’s pre-game routine. However, in a game in September, a shift was observed in Griner’s stance as she was seen standing and singing along to the national anthem.

While Root’s comment was controversial, the game itself saw no shortage of controversy as well, especially relating to officiating calls.

Early in the second quarter, Indiana HC Stephanie White was given a technical foul for her protest as she got on the court, complaining about a no-call for what the Fever thought was a foul against Lexie Hull by the Aces’ Brianna Turner. Instead, Hull was awarded a personal foul, and the Fever’s call for review was not satisfied. It was later reported that the Fever missed the window to appeal that call.

The game got off to a fiery start as in the very first quarter itself, Caitlin Clark and Brianna Turner each got a technical. This was after Clark shoved Turner out of the huddle as the Fever were regrouping, with around 6:54 left in the first quarter. The dramatics didn’t end there.

Clark was also left bloodied in the fourth quarter after Jewell Loyd caught her in the face with her elbow, but no foul was called.

Then, in the dying moments of the game, with less than a minute left, Aliyah Boston was called for a foul on A’ja Wilson. However, Boston quickly protested the call, alleging that no contact was made with Wilson.

While Caitlin Clark started the game well, scoring 11 points in the first quarter, the Aces were able to contain her after that. Clark finished the game as Indiana’s third-highest scorer, with 18 points. Kelsey Mitchell finished with 23 points, and Aliyah Boston added another 19.

However, the Fever struggled with their efficiency in the game, as they recorded an FG% of just 38, as compared to the Aces’ 45%. One of the hallmarks that made the Fever the best offensive side during the regular season was their shooting from beyond the arc, at a league-leading 38.6%. The Fever, in this critical game, could manage only a three-point percentage of just 28%.

For the Aces, A’ja Wilson capped off another brilliant night as she finished with 36 points and 10 rebounds in a double-double. Wilson was joined by Chelsea Gray, who added 23 points, and Jackie Young, who scored 18. Becky Hammon relied on her starters quite heavily in this game, with injuries to key players impacting her decisions. Hammon spoke about her decision to play Jewel Loyd as Stephanie Talbot missed the game due to an injury.

“She was a game-time decision,” Hammon said after the game. “I just told her, ‘You’ve got to do what’s best for your body.’ Her assignment in this particular game is such a huge one if she’s not at 100%, I need to see somebody at 100%. I know she was heartbroken she couldn’t get out there and physically get it done.”

The win takes the Las Vegas Aces to the semifinals, and the defending champions will play either the Dallas Wings or the Golden State Valkyries in the semifinals. Caitlin Clark and Co. will have to bid adieu to their playoff hopes as they are eliminated from the postseason by the Aces for the second season in a row.

For the second straight season, the Indiana Fever’s playoff journey has come to an end at the hands of the Las Vegas Aces. The Fever went 1-2 in the first round, and while their playoff run produced plenty of headlines, the officiating in this series stood out the most. When Game 3 came to an end, head coach Stephanie White pointed to the free-throw disparity as a factor that played a major role in the outcome. And sitting alongside her during the postgame interview, Caitlin Clark had just two words to add to her coach’s comments.

During her postgame media availability, posted to Instagram by espnW, coach White was asked about Indiana’s inability to maintain its strong offensive start throughout the game. White pointed to the physicality of the matchup and the shots her team failed to knock down before highlighting another difference she felt mattered.

“It’s a game of the margins, and they had 35 free throws. We had 20,” she said.

Hearing that, the 24-year-old guard sitting alongside her could not help herself.

“Hmm, interesting.”

And that was enough to send WNBA fans into a conversation of their own.

“Refs clearly cheated,” a fan wrote under the Instagram post.

“Refs win this game,” another added.

Those reactions did not come out of nowhere. The officiating had already been a talking point throughout the series, with Indiana being called for more fouls than Las Vegas in all three games. The Fever were whistled for 25 fouls compared to 18 for the Aces in Game 1, then 24 to 19 in Game 2. Game 3 followed the same pattern, with Indiana called for 27 fouls while Las Vegas finished with 19.

But several moments from the winner-take-all matchup only amplified that frustration

The most jarring came with just 3:16 remaining in the fourth quarter. With Las Vegas leading 82-77, Jewel Loyd came down from a rebound, and her elbow caught Caitlin Clark in the mouth. Clark immediately pointed toward the official to show that she was bleeding, but no foul was called on the play.

Then earlier in the game, Brianna Turner pulled Lexie Hull down during a battle for position, yet the foul was called on Hull. Coach White immediately protested the decision, but even she was handed a technical foul for her reaction.

Taken together, those moments help explain why the officiating became such a major part of the conversation after Indiana’s season-ending loss. But not every fan was convinced the whistles were the reason Indiana came up short.

“So every team needs to commit the same amount of fouls as you do for you to win?” a fan questioned.

While another pointed to Clark’s performance in the game, “shot 33% & had 6 turnovers. now THAT is interesting.”

While the officiating became a major talking point, there is another side to the story. Indiana’s aggressive, fast-paced style naturally puts the Fever in plenty of high-hustle situations, and that showed up in their foul numbers throughout the season. They ranked third in the WNBA during the regular season for fouls committed, averaging 21.3 per game. And that number climbed to 24.5 per game in the postseason, the highest mark among all playoff teams.

That makes it difficult to point to the whistles alone as the reason Indiana’s season came to an end. The Fever also struggled to match the Aces’ level for much of the night, particularly after a first quarter in which they appeared to match Las Vegas’ energy and finished the period tied at 31-31.

From there, however, Indiana’s urgency faded, and its key players struggled to find a rhythm. Caitlin Clark finished with 18 points on 6-of-18 shooting, including 3-of-12 from three, while turning the ball over six times. Kelsey Mitchell also endured a difficult night, scoring 23 points but shooting just 7-of-23 from the field and 3-of-11 from deep. She did knock down 6-of-8 from the free-throw line, but Indiana needed more offensive consistency from its backcourt in a winner-take-all game.

So as another fan summed it up, “To be the Champs, you have to beat the Champs.”

With the win, Las Vegas now moves on to the WNBA semifinals, where the Aces will face the winner of the Golden State Valkyries and Dallas Wings series.

The Las Vegas Aces had been pushed back by the Indiana Fever in Game 2, but when it came down to the final game, the defending champions found what they needed from their veterans, establishing a 12-point lead at one point. A’ja Wilson and Co. have moved on to the WNBA semifinals, and the entire basketball world has taken note.

Wilson and teammate Chelsea Gray, who have been the base of the Aces championship-winning squads, combined for 59 points in the winner-takes-all Game 3 to send the Fever home with a 94-83 win. One of the people who took note of the win was WNBA legend Candace Parker, who made a bold prediction about the Las Vegas Aces, who now move into the longer semifinals series.

“Best of 3 scenario favored everyone else…. Luck up and win 2,” she wrote on X. “But now….Who are the Aces losing to in a best of 5 or 7?”

Parker, who is a seven-time WNBA All-Star and has won three WNBA championships, makes a legitimate point. The WNBA’s first-round best-of-three format gives teams relatively short paths to upsets. The Aces could very well have lost this series if their poor shooting during Game 2 was replicated, when they fell 99-89 to the Fever.

The semifinals are a different ballgame altogether. A best-of-five series skews towards teams with experience, and with the Las Vegas Aces being the most proven playoff performers in the league, Parker might not be wrong in predicting them to win over anyone else.

Another reaction to their win came from the NBA, which posted a simple celebratory message to commemorate them making it past the Fever.

“THE ACES ARE SEMIFINALS-BOUND!” their X post read.

Another notable reaction came from sports analyst Skip Bayless, who highlighted Wilson and Gray for their outstanding performance.

“The truth was for the Fever, A’ja Wilson and Chelsea Gray were just too much, just wanted it more, just made too many veteran championship shots,” he wrote on X.

That assessment showed up in the box score. After a decent scoring performance during Game 2 (Wilson 22 PTS, Gray 10 PTS), A’ja Wilson turned the heat up with a 36-point, 10-rebound double-double, hitting 11 of her 18 shots and making 12-of-15 free throws. Meanwhile, Gray finished with 23 points, adding four rebounds and five assists.

Meanwhile, the Fever’s top two struggled hard. After logging a 27-point, 15-assist performance in Game 2, Caitlin Clark came back down to earth, starting with 11 points in the first quarter but finishing with 18 points on 6-for-18 shooting, while logging five fouls and six turnovers. Kelsey Mitchell finished with Kelsey Mitchell finished with 23 points on 23 shots, making just seven of them.

What made the win stand out even more was who Vegas was missing. Just before the game, forward Stephanie Talbot was ruled out of the game due to a leg injury, forcing the team to insert Jewell Loyd into the starting lineup. Talbot was particularly important for the Aces, starting all but one regular-season game and being the primary defensive matchup for Clark, making her uncomfortable with her length.

The game also saw major tension between the two sides, with three total technical fouls called during the game. The first two were called on Clark and Brianna Turner during the first quarter, when the Fever guard pushed the Aces forward when the latter tried to enter an Indiana huddle.

Then, during the second quarter, the Fever head coach Stephanie White was called for a technical foul when she argued with referees about Lexie Hull being called for a foul.

The Fever tried their best to take the lead in the fourth, cutting the gap to two points twice in the period to make it close, but couldn’t make shots when it mattered.

Now, the Las Vegas Aces move on to the semifinals for the seventh consecutive season and are set to face the team that wins Game 3 between the Dallas Wings and the Golden State Valkyries. Only time will tell if they can repeat as champions. The other semifinals will be between the New York Liberty (who defeated the Minnesota Lynx) and the Atlanta Dream (who defeated the Washington Mystics).

The Indiana Fever came agonizingly close to extending their season on Thursday after trailing the Las Vegas Aces for most of the night, but a contested call in Q4 cost Indiana its season. With the Aces eventually pulling away for a 94-83 victory in Game 3, Indiana was left looking back at the moments that could have changed the outcome. And for Caitlin Clark, one of those moments came with just over two minutes remaining in the game.

Despite the heartbreaking loss, Clark wasn’t interested in overlooking what the Fever had accomplished in a season that ended one round earlier than they hoped. Instead, she pointed to the late sequence involving Kelsey Mitchell and the officials as a moment when Indiana was still very much in the fight.

“Just proud of our group for the way we battled and the way we fought,” Clark said during her post-game interview. “Things didn’t really go our way tonight, but if the challenge at whatever point that was, with two minutes to go, is called correctly when they go to the monitor, it’s a one-possession game, and we have the ball. So, we were right there, and I felt we probably played a ‘C’ game. So, like I said, that probably hurts, but a lot to be proud of at the same time.”

The moment Caitlin Clark was referring to came with the Aces holding an 82-80 lead. With two minutes and 15 seconds left on the clock, Mitchell missed a layup but managed to secure the offensive rebound and went back up for another attempt. But a Las Vegas defender stopped her, and the officials called a foul on Mitchell, awarding possession to the Aces.

Indiana challenged the call, hoping to keep the ball and potentially cut further into Las Vegas’ lead. However, after reviewing the play, the officials determined that the challenge was unsuccessful, leaving the ball with the Aces.

That decision proved costly for the Fever as Las Vegas went on a 6-2 run in a crucial stretch, turning a two-point game into a six-point advantage and putting Indiana in an increasingly difficult position with the clock winding down. Had the call gone Indiana’s way, the outcome could have been very different.

Caitlin Clark ultimately finished with 18 points on 6-of-18 shooting, including 3-of-12 from three, while committing six turnovers. It was not the kind of offensive night she would have wanted in a winner-take-all playoff game, but her postgame assessment went beyond her own numbers.

The Fever had already shown their resilience by forcing a Game 3 after dropping the first round series opener. They pushed the Aces again on Thursday, but Wilson and Las Vegas had enough down the stretch to close the door.

The loss now brings Indiana’s season to an end with a 28-16 run, marking the second consecutive year that the Fever have seen their playoff run stopped by Wilson and the Aces. Last season, Las Vegas eliminated Indiana in the semifinals in a 3-2 series. This time, the Aces ended the Fever’s run in the opening round and advanced to the semifinals. They will now face the winners of the Dallas Wings-Golden State Valkyries playoff series, which is currently tied at 1-1.

To say that the series finale between the Las Vegas Aces and the Indiana Fever was a pretty physical contest would be an understatement. Game 3 of Round 1 was contested right till the end as the Aces edged out the Fever 94-83. However, a late incident in the paint left Caitlin Clark with blood on her lip and teeth, and the Fever guard left for the locker room with a towel over her mouth.

The incident happened with around 3:16 left in the fourth quarter. Clark was attempting a rebound when the Aces’ Jewell Loyd hit her elbow on the Fever Guard’s face while coming down. Clark immediately clutched her mouth and went down to the floor. After getting attended to on the sidelines, Clark headed to the tunnel for treatment, but returned before the ball was inbounded again, per the Sporting Tribune’s Arion Armeniakos.

Upon returning, Clark showed her still-bloodied mouth to the referee by pulling her upper lip up, but no foul was called. Stephanie White, who had appeared animated almost the entire game, protested this physical play on Clark, but Indiana’s call for a review went unheeded because no foul was called.

Senior writer for The Athletic, Chris Vannini, commended Clark’s effort to come back quickly in the game.

“Caitlin Clark may have lost a tooth on an elbow and is right back in the game. Hockey player,” Vannini wrote in an X post.

WNBA commentator Skip Bayless echoed that point.

“Caitlin just took an elbow in the mouth from Jewel Lloyd, shows the ref her bloody teeth; no flagrant. Did not look intentional. This is an extremely physical basketball game,” wrote Bayless in an X post.

The physical game saw a high foul rate from both teams. Indiana committed 27 personal fouls, while the Aces had 19. Stephanie White was handed a technical foul in the second quarter itself for protesting an apparent no-call in an incident involving Lexie Hull. When Hull got tangled up with Aces’ Brianna Turner, White got frustrated as a foul was called against Hull, who also pointed out at the time that it was her arm that was grabbed by Turner.

The Aces ultimately held on to win Game 3 and advance to Round 2 of the playoffs. A’ja Wilson finished as the top scorer for the team with 36 points. Chelsea Gray finished with 23, while Jackie Young added 18.

The Fever were led by Kelsey Mitchell, who scored 23 points, and Caitlin Clark with 18 points. Aliyah Boston contributed another 19, but it just wasn’t enough to turn the tide, as the Aces, the defending champs, took it all in clutch time.

The Aces are well on their way to defending their title. For the Fever, another promising season comes to an end.

The Las Vegas Aces are moving on to the semifinals, while the Indiana Fever are heading home once again at the hands of A’ja Wilson and Co. In a winner-take-all Game 3 on Thursday, the Aces pulled away for a 94-83 victory at Michelob ULTRA Arena, ending Indiana’s playoff run for the second consecutive season.

There was no room for hesitation in Las Vegas, with both teams walking into the arena knowing that one more loss would bring their season to an end. And from the opening minutes, neither side appeared willing to back down. The intensity was there from the jump, with three MVP candidates trading buckets as the Fever opened the game on a 6-2 run. Kelsey Mitchell started things off with a quick three, A’ja Wilson answered for Las Vegas, and Caitlin Clark followed with another triple to keep Indiana rolling.

But as the game unfolded, the Aces gradually seized control, with Wilson leading the charge and Las Vegas doing enough down the stretch to close out the series. With the Fever’s season now over and the Aces advancing, several moments from the decisive Game 3 stood out above the rest.

Caitlin Clark Takes a Painful Blow Late

With just 3:16 remaining in the fourth quarter and the Aces holding an 82-77 lead, the Fever suddenly had another reason to worry. As Las Vegas guard Jewel Loyd came down during a rebound, her elbow caught Caitlin Clark in the mouth, leaving the Indiana star needing immediate attention.

The Fever quickly called a timeout as Clark headed toward the locker room to deal with the bleeding. No foul was called on the play, prompting the Indiana guard to rush toward the official and point out the blood coming from her mouth before eventually heading to the locker room.

However, Clark wasn’t done for the night. After getting the bleeding under control, the Fever guard returned to the floor with Indiana still fighting to keep its season alive. But the Aces continued to pull away down the stretch, eventually closing out a 94-83 victory and sending the Fever home.

Clark finished the night with 18 points on 6-of-18 shooting, including 3-of-12 from beyond the arc, while also committing six turnovers. And while the loss brought the Fever’s playoff run to an end, the late-game incident wasn’t the only time Clark found herself at the center of a heated moment in the winner-take-all matchup.

Earlier in the night, with just a little over three minutes left in the first quarter and Indiana holding a 12-9 lead, Clark had already found herself in an exchange with former Fever teammate Brianna Turner.

The 24-year-old picked up her second technical foul of the playoffs after Turner lingered near Indiana’s group following a foul called on Lexie Hull. Clark eventually pushed Turner away, prompting officials to step in and hand both players offsetting technical fouls.

Turner spent last season in Indiana, appearing in 27 games and averaging 8.6 points and 1.9 rebounds. But after joining the Aces this season, the dynamic was understandably different. With both teams fighting to keep their seasons alive, there was little room for old friendships once the ball was tipped.

For Caitlin Clark, the technical also added to a storyline that had already followed her through the series: foul trouble. Just two days earlier, the Fever star had put together an incredible performance in Game 2, only for the night to end with one major complication — she fouled out.

A’ja Wilson’s Record Night Powers Aces Into Semifinals

The Fever made Wilson work for virtually every point in Game 2. They constantly threw different looks at the four-time MVP, forcing her into uncomfortable spots and making sure she rarely had a clean path to the basket. By halftime in that game on Tuesday, Wilson had just 10 points on 3-of-8 shooting, including 0-of-1 from three, while also turning the ball over three times. She eventually finished with 22 points, but it was hardly the kind of efficient night the Aces superstar has made routine.

Game 3, however, brought a completely different version of Wilson – and it ended with another piece of playoff history.

With the Aces’ season hanging in the balance, the 30-year-old came out looking every bit like the superstar Las Vegas needed. She poured in 21 points by halftime, immediately putting the Fever in a very different situation from the one they faced two nights earlier.

Wilson then wasted no time making matters worse for Indiana after the break. She knocked down her second three-pointer of the night to reach 28 points and stretch Las Vegas’ lead to 10, forcing Stephanie White to call a timeout as the Fever couldn’t afford to let the Aces superstar get into a rhythm.

But Wilson’s performance was about more than simply taking over Game 3. According to Polymarket Hoops, Wilson now has the most 25-plus-point games in WNBA playoff history.

She eventually finished the night with 36 points on 11-of-18 shooting, including 2-of-3 from three and 12-of-15 from the free-throw line. She also added ten rebounds and two blocks as Las Vegas eliminated Indiana 2-1 in the first round and advanced to the semifinals.

Indiana Fever Head Coach Penalized After Heated Referee Exchange

The Fever entered the second quarter tied 31-31, but it didn’t take long for the officials to once again become part of the story. Less than two minutes into the period, Indiana found itself on the wrong end of another whistle, and this time, head coach Stephanie White’s reaction landed her in trouble.

With Lexie Hull and Brianna Turner battling for position in the paint, the two got tangled up before Turner went to the floor and pulled Hull down with her. The officials called a foul on Hull, and that decision clearly didn’t sit well with White. The Fever head coach immediately made her way onto the court to voice her disagreement with the call. However, instead of getting the ruling overturned, White was handed a technical foul, giving Las Vegas another opportunity at the free-throw line.

Chelsea Gray converted her shot to put the Aces up by one and add another twist to an increasingly tense opening half.

Several reports suggested that the Fever coach tried to challenge the call but wasn’t allowed to, but beat reporter Tony East confirmed that the Fever simply missed the window.

“Broadcast now says they got confirmation the Fever didn’t challenge with the allotted time they’re supposed to,” East wrote on X.

The sequence brought the officiating back into focus in a series where the whistles had already attracted plenty of attention. Indiana was called for 24 fouls in Game 2 compared to 19 for Las Vegas, while Game 1 saw the Fever whistled for 25 fouls and the Aces for 18.

With Caitlin Clark already receiving a technical earlier in the game, White’s tech gave the officiating crew another unexpected role in the winner-take-all battle.

So as the much-anticipated game comes to an end, the Indiana Fever also end their season with a 28-16 record, finishing 3rd in the Eastern Conference Division and 6th in the WNBA standings.

The 94-83 loss marked the second consecutive season in which the Fever saw their playoff run come to an end against Wilson and the Aces. Last season, Las Vegas eliminated Indiana in the semifinals. The Aces will now await the winner of Friday’s Game 3 between the Golden State Valkyries and Dallas Wings, with Game 1 of the semifinals set for Sunday.

On the other side of the bracket, the Atlanta Dream will take on the New York Liberty.

Caitlin Clark was at the center of yet another physical night at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse during the Indiana Fever’s playoff finale against the Las Vegas Aces, but the guard did not forget her composure. Amid the technical fouls, heated exchanges, and mounting pressure, a brief moment off the court showed a softer side of the Fever star.

During the second quarter, with about 6:54 on the clock, Clark threw up a contested layup as she ran out of bounds. However, she didn’t see the camera operator sitting on the baseline and ran into her. Clark quickly diverted her attention to the operator, helping others get her back up, before returning to the court.

As the operator got up, the broadcast camera zoomed in on her, and she threw up a quick thumbs-up gesture to show that she was fine. The sequence, as well as the camerawoman’s reaction, was then clipped and posted to X.

“Our camera op on the baseline, Baseline Bev,” the broadcasters said as the camera zoomed in on the operator.

“Make sure Beverley’s okay; we’re getting a thumbs up!”

The moment stood out because of how chaotic the rest of the game was. Clark had plenty on her mind that night, with Indiana’s season on the line as they fought the Aces for a place in the WNBA semifinals. It had been an extremely hard-fought game, with plenty of emotional outbursts, including one from the Fever guard.

In the first quarter, Clark, as well as former teammate and now Aces forward Brianna Turner, were given offsetting technical fouls during a sequence that saw Clark push Turner after the forward tried entering an Indiana huddle.

Indiana had entered Game 3 after splitting their first two games of the series with Vegas. The Aces had won Game 1 in blowout fashion behind a monstrous 38-point, 16-rebound performance from A’ja Wilson, before the Fever bounced back in Game 2.

Clark finished Game 2 with 27 points, 15 assists, and seven rebounds, becoming the first player in league history to record a points-assists double-double in a playoff half with 14 points and 11 assists in the first half.

Despite the physical play and the massive media attention during Game 3, Clark did not allow it to dampen her humanity. What makes this moment even more interesting is that less than a month ago, her behavior with a different camera official generated very different reactions online. Following a game against the Connecticut Sun on August 28, which the Fever won 111-91, Clark was being interviewed on the broadcast.

However, as she walked away, a cameraman stood in her path, and without breaking her stride, Clark pushed the operator aside with her arm, continuing without saying anything.

Cameraman incidents aren’t anything new for the guard either. Back in 2025, during a game when she was injured, Clark was being filmed by a camera, but as the lens nearly hit her face, she confronted the cameraman, who apologized to her.

Both incidents saw major pushback from fans online, who were not pleased with her treatment of the camera crew. The most recent incident shows a major improvement in this regard, but unfortunately for Clark, the game did not end up going her way.

Clark finished the game with 18 points but made just six of her 18 shots, while logging more turnovers than assists (six TOs vs four AST), and committing five fouls. On top of that, the Fever ended up going down against the Aces, who took home a 94-83 win, ending Indiana’s season on a disappointing note after making the WNBA semifinals last season.

A’ja Wilson led the scoring for the Aces, finishing with 36 points on 11-for-18 shooting, adding 10 rebounds and two blocks while also making 12-of-15 free throws.

Regardless of how the Fever’s final game of the season unfolded around her, Clark noticing the camera operator on the baseline stood out despite only lasting a few seconds. In a playoff series that has been headlined by tension and controversy, the small gesture revealed a noticeably different side of Clark.
