Every Time a Boxer Under Canelo's Trainer, Eddy Reynoso, Tested Positive for Banned Substances

Eddy Reynoso is one of the best boxing trainers in the world. With his unparalleled knowledge and teaching abilities, he has trained several elite boxers such as Canelo Alvarez, Ryan Garcia, Andy Ruiz Jr., and more. However, even the best coach has been involved in some controversies.

Canelo Alvarez

Prior to his rematch against Gennady Golovkin, Canelo Alvarez tested positive for a banned substance named clenbuterol, which appeared in trace amounts during a pair of out-of-competition urine tests collected in his home country, Mexico.

However, Alvarez denied taking the banned substance intentionally and blamed the test on tainted meat. The officials backed up Alvarez's claims, and the rematch took place on September 15, 2018, where he won via a majority decision.

Oscar Valdez

Recently, Oscar Valdez tested positive for a banned substance named diuretics ahead of his September 10, 2021, WBC super featherweight title defense against Robson Conceicao. As of September 2, 2021, the matter is still under review by WBC.

Julio Cesar Martinez

Julio Cesar Martinez tested positive for clenbuterol ahead of his fight against Cristofer Rosales for the vacant WBC flyweight title back in 2019. Martinez also blamed the test on tainted meat.

Akin to Canelo Alvarez, the officials backed Martinez's claim, and was allowed to fight for the title. He claimed the vacant WBC flyweight title by defeating Cristofer Rosales via TKO in the ninth round.
