Undoubtedly, 7-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton is one of the greatest F1 drivers of all time. He won most of his championships with the Mercedes team. Safe to say, he has cemented his legacy as a Mercedes driver. Although he has yet a sign a contract extension with the Brackley outfit, he gave a future update regarding his legacy with the Mercedes team.
As we know, Hamilton is currently in the final year of his Mercedes contract. There have been plenty of rumors about his extension with the team. Hamilton reportedly asked for $25 million a year and an ambassador role in the future. However, Mercedes apparently rejected his proposal, as they are still trying to negotiate.
Despite having a poor season with Mercedes, Hamilton still has plenty of faith in the team. Hamilton was recently asked about his contract extension and he said, “That’s not what I’m thinking. Before the end of the season we’ll be already well into the contract. I still have 100 percent faith in this team.”
In the recent episode of the ‘F1: Chequered Flag’ podcast, Hamilton said, “It’s really cool to be a part of this brand. I mean they signed me when I was 13. There’s plenty of my cars now as a part of their evolution, of their history and long after I’m gone, I’ll still be a part of Mercedes, so that’s cool.”
