High Hopes Dashed: McLaren's Momentum at Belgian GP

After strong performances in Hungary, Silverstone, and Austria, McLaren aimed to maintain momentum at Spa-Francorchamps. But their upgrade package backfired, leading to struggles in the race. Team Principal Andrea Stella explained the challenges they faced due to the high-downforce setup.  Stella said, “In perfect hindsight, we could have tried to find some other solution to reduce the drag on the car. We know how much efficiency we would have shed, but it could be that we wouldn’t have been able to achieve [the Sprint results] if we had made this choice.”

Norris' Strategy Saves the Day

Lando Norris fought against a high-drag rear wing's limitations, dropping from P7 to P16. Yet, his bold tire strategy paid off, making a mega undercut with Soft tires. Aggressive overtakes and an advantageous pit stop helped him climb back to P7 and score crucial points.

Looking Ahead: McLaren's Redemption Plan

The summer break gives McLaren an opportunity to address their underwhelming Spa performance. Despite losing podium-scoring momentum, they remain consistent in points-scoring. With eyes set on Zandvoort, Norris and the team aim to come back stronger and regain their stride.
