Mickelson has been a frequent competitor of the annual charity event since its inauguration in 2018. After defeating his longtime rival Tiger Woods in the very first edition, Phil was teamed up with the 7 time Super Bowl winner, Tom Brady, in 2020. However, they lost to the team of Woods and former Indianapolis Colts quarterback, Peyton Manning.
Following the thrilling loss, Mickelson and Brady were left unsettled with the result. Nonetheless, a year later in 2021, the golfer-quarterback duo had another chance to retaliate, with Phil even sending out a warning to their opponents.
Like any other edition of ‘The Match’, the 2021 version of the exhibition competition also had plenty of trash talk during the lead-up to the event. But among many of those trash talk came a warning from Mickelson, who revealed he and Tom Brady were out for revenge.
After all the back and forth, when both teams finally showed up at The Reserve in Montana, the Green Bay Packers quarterback along with DeChambeau had the final laugh. The pair played well enough to guarantee a victory by the 16th hole, as they were up by three. They convincingly defeated the Mickelson-Brady duo by a score of 3&2.
Unfortunately for Phil Mickelson, he remained without a win, while being paired with his NFL buddy. However, as far as Brady’s record is concerned, he won the latest edition of ‘The Match’ earlier this year, while teaming up with arch-rival, Aaron Rodgers.
