3 MLB Teams Emerge as Prime Candidates For Shohei Ohtani as He Stands On the Cusp of the Biggest Contract in American History

One of the biggest two-way players in the league, Shohei Ohtani will soon hit free agency. And plenty of teams are lining up to grab the opportunity and sign the 28-year-old Japanese player. Earlier, the Mets were the favorites to sign him; now, the latest reports suggest that he could stay in Los Angeles.

Steve Cohen wants Ohtani badly

The New York Mets owner Steve Cohen has been chasing Ohtani for a long time. He even flew to Japan to watch him play in the World Baseball Classic. However, two other teams are chasing him as well.

Two other teams are pursuing Ohtani

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres are also pursuing him. As per MLB insider Kiley Mcdaniel, the projected deal could be $524.3 million for 11 years. As per him, “…a team is getting elite talent in two areas and saving a roster spot.”

Ohtani could stay in Los Angeles

Meanwhile, Ohtani chose the Angels because it’s closer to his home country. That’s why the Dodgers could be his next destination. An MLB insider said, “I think he uses the Padres and Mets to run up the price, but he wants to and will go with the Dodgers.”
