“We Were Able to Move Very Quickly” – When Alex Rodriguez Jumped From the Mets to the Timberwolves Within Days


One of the legends of the game, Alex Rodriguez has achieved many accolades in the MLB. After retirement, he became a brilliant businessman and became one of the richest sportspersons in the world. Earlier, he became the owner of the NBA team Minnesota Timberwolves; he opened up recently about acquiring the team. 


Rodriguez’s failed Mets deal

In 2020, A-Rod and his ex-fiancee Jennifer Lopez tried to acquire ownership of the New York Mets. They battled with Steve Cohen regarding the purchase. Unfortunately, they lost, as Cohen bought the Mets for $2.4 billion. 

A-Rod bought the Timberwolves

The disappointment of the failed Mets deal did not demoralize A-Rod, as he quickly teamed with billionaire Marc Lore and bought the NBA team, Minnesota Timberwolves, in the very next year for $1.5 billion. As per reports, they will pay the whole amount in three installments.

In a recent episode of the show ‘Bloomberg Wealth with David Rubenstein’, A-Rod said, “Once we saw the Mets deal that fell apart, we were able to move very quickly, shake hands almost within seven days with Glenn Taylor (former majority owner of the Timberwolves). And the rest is history.”
