Pat McAfee and Co Mourn the Loss of Colts Owner's 7000-Lbs Pet Friend, Days Before Scheduled Release

It was Jim Irsay, the Colts owner's dream to fly Lolita, the orca in captivity across the country. The man was set to spend $20 million to fly her from Miami to Seattle. The journey not only cost millions but also expected to take two years for the flight to happen, if it was not for Irsay's support it would have taken longer.

Indianapolis Colt's owner Jim Irsay's plans for Lolita

Jim Irsay had said in a press release that the story of Lolita, also known as Tokitae, was close to his heart. He decided to put his money behind the killer whale's flight to her native and was proud to play a role in her return. Irsay had planned to turn an entire plane into an aquarium and fly the whale to the wilderness.

The orca spent the last 53 years in captivity at the Miami Seaquarium since being captured in 1970. She entertained visitors for over five decades, but declining health led to the decision to send her back to Puget Sound. Sadly, she passed away due to renal failure before she could take the flight to her freedom.

Pat McAfee and co. mourn the loss of Lolita

In his YouTube video, Pat McAfee shared the sad demise of the beloved whale. With a heavy heart, he said, "My God the whale that was going to be saved from a life of horror inside of a too-small tank by Jim Irsay." He added that the whale could have gotten a chance to live free in the wilderness "and maybe find her mom and live a good life."
