In his initial days, Covington wrestled in college and had a perfect record of 34-0. He also won the 171 lbs state championship and played in Impact Wrestling (2017) and WrestlePro (2018).

The American had a 5-0 MMA record consisting of 3 submissions and 2 decision victories, earning him a shot in the UFC.

After winning against Demian Maia, 'Chaos' gave a controversial octagon interview in 2017, which turned the tables and made him the topic of discussion. This was a turning point in his UFC career.
