When Khabib Nurmagomedov Was Introduced as a Ukrainian During a Fight

While tensions between Russia and Ukraine are high, athletes of both countries have been speaking up. In the wake of this event occurring, a Reddit user recently posted a video of Khabib Nurmagomedov being introduced as a Ukrainian.

The video seems quite old as the fighter looked very younger. Further, the announcer spoke in Russian. Hence, for English speakers, it might be difficult to understand what was being said. However, the video was posted with the title, “Khabib “Bad Boy” Nurmagomedov .. from Ukraine”.

A few users also discussed why Khabib was introduced as a Ukrainian and not a Russian. According to some of them, Khabib could have Ukrainian roots. Further, many were fascinated that the announcer called the fighter ‘Khabib Bad Boy Nurmagomedov’. Several Reddit users felt that Khabib should have kept the nickname throughout his career.

However, the undefeated fighter has been known as ‘The Eagle’ for a large part of his career. The 29-0-0 record holder retired in 2020 and now runs his own promotion, ‘Eagle FC’. He also trains and mentors his teammates. He attends their fights and corners them. Thus, Khabib can be spotted at a number of UFC events.

Islam Makhachev fought at UFC Vegas 49. While he was initially supposed to fight Beneil Dariush, the fighter sustained an injury. As a result, Bobby Green decided to step up on short notice. Unfortunately, Green lost to Makhachev in the first round.

During this fight, Khabib walked to the octagon behind the younger Russian. He also cornered him for the fight. With this win, Makhachev could soon get a title fight. In fact, Khabib and Makhachev have been pushing for a title fight for a while now.

Interestingly, UFC star Conor ‘The Notorious’ McGregor is also waiting for a title fight upon his return. With McGregor and Makhachev wanting the same spot, it would be interesting to see if they clash; especially with Khabib right behind Makhachev. What do you think? Let us know in the comments.
