Stephen Thompson Reveals Dana White Is Yet to Pay Him for UFC 291 After Michel Pereira Failed to Make Weight

Discover how UFC star Stephen Thompson was not paid after his bout against Michel Pereira was cancelled. Though UFC 291 had some wonderful battles on the card, fans eagerly waited for Stephen Thompson’s battle too. Alex Periera's hard fought victory and the fireworks of Justin Gaethje's performance against Dustin Poirier lit the atmosphere but viewers also expected the magic of Stephen Thompson’s fight to unfold. Explore what has dragged Dana White's payment policy into controversy again.

Stephen Thompson and his UFC payment controversy

Stephen Thompson weighed 170.5 pounds against Michael Pereira‘s 174 pounds. Because 171 has been set the upper limit for Welterweight category, the match could not take place. However, 'Wonderboy' was not paid despite qualifying weigh-ins.

Though Thompson shared optimism that Dana White will sort out the issue yet he said that he will be disappointed in case he is not compensated. 'Wonderboy' said, “One hundred percent, I’ll be disappointed. Who wouldn’t be? When you show up, and you’re on point, and you have done nothing wrong and your opponent has, it would just really stink if that was the case."

Recurring low fighter pay controversies

Earlier too UFC was under fire for ignoring fair payment policy. However, Dana White has time and again reiterated his support for a just pay.

Fans were aghast at the issue on Reddit. A fan wrote,“That should be f***ing illegal,” “That is f*****g illegal. Another wrote, “It’s be fair to get both purses if your opponent misses weight. Not getting paid at all is straight bullsh*t.” Another commented, “Shi**y as it sounds then no fighter would take the fight against a weight miss. The % is the incentive,”
