At the UFC Hall of Fame induction ceremony, Daniel Cormier got honored as part of the 2022 class. But this is not it, Cormie used the platform to accept the infamous 'Towel Gate' incident. Let's look at the timeline of events.
During UFC 210 weigh-in, Cormier weighed in 1.2 pounds over the allowed 205-pound limit for his light heavyweight title fight against Anthony Johnson.
But 2.5 minutes later, Cormier stepped back on the scale and made weight. He was seen placing both hands on a towel held in front of his naked body, which is an old amateur wrestling trick that is used to trick digital weighing scales.
Anthony "Rumble" Johnson later appealed to the NYSAC over Cormier’s “Towel Gate" incident and demanded an action to subject him to discipline by suspending and putting a fine on him.
The legend Cormier admitted the Towel Gate incident and called it real by accepting that he did hold the towel to trick the digital weighing machine.
He ultimately apologized to Johnson for the weigh-in incident and all that went in there.
