5′ Tall Equestrian With Hearing Impairment From a Young Age Achieves Jaw-Dropping Feat

Equestrian sports require a different level of mental endurance and physical prowess, like well-built stature, proper eyesight, and exceptional hearing skills. However, defying these prerequisites of equestrianism, a Taiwanese Wu Ling-Kai, who is just 5 feet high and has a hearing impairment, achieved a significant feat in one of the most elite competitions. 

Passion overcomes the adversities!

According to TaiwanPlus News, ninth-grader equestrian Wu Ling-Kai won a nationwide competition, whose credit she gave to her passion despite her hearing problem.

How did the equestrian champion got the hearing problem?

At the age of 2, Wu got a hearing implant that affected her sense of balance a lot. Therefore, her grandmother signed her up for horseback riding to help her teach kilter balance.

"I have trouble hearing loud noises that might startle my horse. If it gets scared, I could get thrown off. If I could hear the loud noises, then I can’t anticipate my horse’s reaction and adjust accordingly".

After her win, Wu stated, “It affected my confidence. Riding horses helped with that. It’s an outlet that gives me confidence".
