Originating in Texas, US, this sport involves competitors navigating an arena full of obstacles like water crossings, bridges, and even lassoing. However, this obstacle sport is facing its own challenges in Australia.

Despite the sport's growing popularity in recent years, there are fewer than 15 extreme cowboy racing clubs in Australia. So, the loyalists are trying to popularise the sport. How?

It's hard to convince people to take up the sport, and 'that's been our biggest obstacle. I think, to explain, it's not just come and go flat out and flog your horse,' says Southern Cross Extreme Cowboy vice president Janeen Greaves.
