Arnold Schwarzenegger’s contribution to the world of bodybuilding is boundless and next to none. And yet the 75-year-old bodybuilder still continues to distribute tips and advice from the large bank of bodybuilding knowledge he has accumulated over the years. Most recently, the Austrian Oak advised his young readers to follow a certain time interval gap routine while lifting weights.

Schwarzenegger said, “You must use progressive resistance. Your body adapts and improves by making each workout harder than the last. Too often, people show up and work hard, but they do the same reps and sets on every exercise”

4-1-1 tempo

Schwarzenegger writes, “The first number (4) refers to how many seconds you should take to lower a weight”. This includes the body weight of the person. He continues, “The second number (1) tells you how long to pause at the bottom. And the third number (1) indicates how quickly you should return to the starting position”.
