“It Was Just Like a Truck Hit Me”: 73-Year-Old Shark Attack Survivor Gets Her Leg Amputated, Recalls the Harrowing Incident

On May 24, 2023, an American tourist from Connecticut vacationing in Turks and Caicos was attacked by a shark, while snorkeling. The first responders who arrived on the scene rushed her to the hospital, after she made it back ashore. But sadly, she had to have her leg amputated. However, how the seriously injured victim fought off the apex predator, and made it to the shore still remains a mystery.

The woman is an experienced scuba diver, named Heidi Ernst, 73, from Iowa. She's been diving for a decade, however, the Bahamas experience turned out to be the fright of her life.

The injuries were so serious that the doctors had to amputate her leg. Recovering on the hospital bed, she's now speaking out. Recollecting the incident, Heidi Ernst said: "It Was Just Like a Truck Hit Me". [video credits: abc News]
