Moments After Death of 16-Year-Old, Friend Raises ‘Subway Surfing’ Awareness

Alexander Antelman, a young artist from Manhattan, uses his art to raise awareness about a dangerous trend among his peers. The sixteen-year-old found his purpose in life after his own friend died pursuing the silly 'Subway surfing' trend: A stunt where riders dash across the roof of a moving train.

Tragic incident highlights the danger of Subway Surfing

Alexander's friend, Kosse Laureano, 17, died after losing balance and falling onto the tracks near the Hudson Yards last year in August.

Grieving Friend determined to prevent further loss of lives

Determined to raise awareness about the dangers of subway surfing, Alexander designed an art installation. It was out of the photos/videos Kosse had captured of the underground with frantic messages Kosse’s mother sent before his corpse was found. [video credits: PIX11 News, Youtube]

Reason behind the death

Explaining his motive for the piece in an interview with CBS News, Alexander said: “I think people do these things without really thinking what their actions can lead to.”
