Essential Mistakes to Steer Clear of When Riding a Horse for the First Time

Equestrian, no doubt, is among the most interesting games. But very few know about the real hardships behind learning horse riding. Committing a trivial mistake while riding a horse can be fatal. Thus before commencing the journey with a horse being aware of the common mistakes of a beginner is inevitable.

Pointing down the toes

The most common mistake of a beginner is pointing down the toes. Somehow it lets the rider feel that they are gripping the horse better, which will keep them safe during the journey. But actually, it creates pressure, leading the horse to react negatively.

Placing leg incorrectly

Generally, beginners make two mistakes in leg placement. First of all, a few keep the leg mostly out of the stirrup for the scare of getting stuck in that. On the other hand, some of them push the leg way too far, leading to body imbalance. Actually, the correct way is to keep the footballs in the stirrup, as this ensures the best body balance.

Braced legs

The third common mistake is braced legs, where the riders point their heel down, which creates pressure, pushing back the rider and creating an imbalanced position.

Gripping with legs

Another common mistake is gripping with legs which usually is done to maintain a balance with the motion. But actually, when the legs grip, it pushes the body out of the saddle, creating an uncomfortable position for both the rider and the horse. Thus, it interrupts the communication system with the horse, making it react negatively.

Holding the reins improperly

Learning to hold the reins is again one of the most important factors, as communicating with the horse depends upon this. Thus, always the rider should keep the thumbs up, like holding a cup, while holding the reins. It keeps the body posture correct and proper communication with the horse.
