Ride at Your Own Risk: World’s Most Treacherous Surf Destinations

If you are an adventure lover, then surfing may be your calling. Riding over the foamy waves of the endless salty aqua can deliver you the most enthralling experiences ever. But is surfing really a fun activity, or it hides something more magnificent? Well, the answer complements the second option. Surfing is not only a tricky sport but can also become dangerous sometimes. Following are some most treacherous surf destinations, enough to give a spine-shiver.

Banzai Pipeline, Hawaii

Towards the north shore of Oahu, Hawaii, there’s one of the most dangerous beaches named Banzai Pipeline. The word ‘Banzai’ means Japanese battle cry. Though the beach is admired by the world due to its unmatched beauty and the 20-foot breakers, it is also among the most deadly ones. The magnificent tides here crash over knife-sharp reefs, making it terrible in all aspects.

Maverick’s, California

Maverick’s is among the few isolated beaches that have been chosen by surfers for ages owing to its vast and powerful tides. But it also has a record of claiming the life of world-famous surfer like Mark Foo, who flew to San Francisco to challenge his potentiality, but sadly enough, he couldn’t cope with the powerful tides and plummeted into the furious ocean.

Teahupo’o, Tahiti

Teahupo is nothing but a paradise for surfers, as it has aesthetic coral reefs and powerful waves. But little did the surfers know that the serenity of the sea can be fatal for many. As it claimed the life of a local surfer Briece Taerea, who was initially stuck and later on, the waves crushed him onto the reef, landing him in a coma for two weeks before succumbing.

The Wedge, California

When talking about the deadly beaches, The Wedge in California can not be forgotten. It is among the beaches that produce the most dangerous waves that crash on the 2000-foot-long granite jetty made by 1930s Army Corps Engineers.

The Dungeons, South Africa

Now comes the even more dangerous surfing destination that is not only known for its massive, deadly waves but also for shark infestation. This place is widely known for the availability of white sharks. Here the waves run like traps to cage the surfers within them, and amidst the same, the white shark's availability makes it a most dangerous one.
