In a YouTube interview, he was asked about how he defeated Arnold Schwarzenegger. He gave the context, “Well, we didn’t know each other at the time; it was 1968, and I just won Mr. America the week before, and I was in great shape whereas he wasn’t in his best shape.”

He revealed, “I took a lot of photos to see what I looked like. I wanted to find out what other people saw.” Further he added, “I focused on that over the years.”
