Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro defensive tackle Chris Jones recently skipped a mandatory minicamp because he wants a contract extension. But later he also missed the team’s ring ceremony which led to a lot of speculation among and everyone has been concerned over Jones’s relationship with the team. But it seems Jones has a genuine reason for missing out the ceremony.

Chris Jones missed attending the Chiefs’ mandatory minicamp recently. This action could nearly cost him $100K in fines while he awaits a long-term contract extension. Later he also missed the team’s Super Bowl LVII ring ceremony that led fans to assume the worst, that his absence was in some way related to the contract negotiations.

Jones is in the final year of his four-year, $80 million deal with Kansas City and has a $28.2 million cap hit for the 2023 season according to Over The Cap. And Chiefs GM Brett Veach had great communication with him and had expressed that he’d be surprised if Jones didn’t attend the ring ceremony.


Jones responds to the speculations about missing the ceremony!

When a fan rasied a serious question about him not being preset at the ceremony on Twitter, Jones explained that he couldn’t attend the ceremony due to other reasons not relevant to the contract. He responded, "I was sick" and stated that as his reason for missing out on the ceremony.
