In their second stint against the New Orleans Pelicans this year, the Boston Celtics almost saw their pristine record depleting. Behind Zion Williamson and CJ McCollum, the Pelicans started dominant, nulling the efforts of Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday on the defense. Together, New Orleans garnered a 10-point fastbreak advantage, posting a 37-28 first quarter. However, the Celtics soon calibrated to their top standard.

As Porzingis and Jrue helped align the defense, all the starters scored to end the game with double-digit figures. Moreover, the game gave Jrue his second win against his former team, whom he left for the Milwaukee Bucks. Post-game, with his Pelicans stint in mind, Holiday was asked whether his visit to the Big Easy has ever felt “weird“.

Right away, Jrue Holiday, who learned about his Bucks trade minutes before the exchange, said, “Nah, it doesn’t feel weird. It feels like home,” right away. Moreover, addressing the people and spots in the city, he continued, “Lot of people that I love, lot of people I love to see. Lot of good food spots that I try to go to.” With that, Jrue wrapped up by saying, “It’s always good to come back.”

https://twitter.com/jarrettreed_/status/1774232733096489108

Currently in his 15th NBA season, Holiday spent major time residing with the Pelicans. Inducted within the franchise during the 2013-14 season, he soon became a major piece in their system. His 7 years with the Pelicans also made his one of the rare transitional elements through their switch from Anthony Davis to Zion Williamson.

The Pelicans is where it all started for Jrue Holiday

Holiday is known for his ability to make things tough for opposing guards. With that, his 2021 playoff stint with the Milwaukee Bucks stands out the most. The guard elevated his role on the Giannis Antetokounmpo-led squad, all with efficient production on both ends of the floor. Jrue, in hopes of his first championship, was locking up the best scorers and making game-winning buckets at the same time.

However, Jrue’s loud confidence and surge were only possible due to his silent years with the Pelicans. While being the ultimate leader of the franchise, Jrue harbored the intricacy of playing alongside potential superstars. Throughout over 400 games, Jrue averaged 17.6 points, 6.8 assists, and 4.2 rebounds for the Pelicans.

Jrue constantly the necessary bits on the offensive and defensive end, often being overshadowed by the stars around him for a much lesser display. However, Holiday, just like a true defender, did not demand attention from the masses. Soon, as he made a switch from a team constantly playing for their offseason chances, to a team with a clear lane to the playoffs (Bucks), Jrue unlocked another layer to his craft; ultimately forcing the best team in the league (Celtics) to lure him in.

The New Orleans Pelicans might have a big decision to make this summer. Despite having two rising stars like Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram on their roster, the Pelicans have failed to achieve any significant success in the playoffs. That makes the NBA World question whether the two stars fit well with each other. The Pelicans front office needs to decide if they want to continue with the Williamson-Ingram duo or trade one of these stars after the end of this season.

Amid the rumors, NBA Insider Shams Charania addressed the Zion and Ingram fit and discussed the potential split of the Pelicans duo. During the latest episode of the Club 520 Podcast, one of the panelists claimed the Pelicans will have to choose between Ingram and Zion this off-season. Charania questioned his claim, “Why canâ€t you pay them both?” Even though Ingram and Zion have missed several games due to injury in the last two seasons, they are on a highly expensive contract.

Ingram is in the 4th year of his 5-year $158.2 million contract. And Zion is currently on a 5-year $197.2 million supermax extension he signed in 2022. However, Zionâ€s contract is not fully guaranteed and has some conditions attached to it. Considering Zionâ€s injury struggles since his rookie season, the Pelicans put a unique clause in his new contract. “The contract has ways for Williamson to earn back the guarantees by playing in enough games and hitting specific weigh-in checkpoints.” Mike Vorkunov of The Athletic wrote. The Pelicans could waive Zionâ€s contract after next season. However, Charania claims that is unlikely to happen, “Theyâ€re not gonna void it.”

This season could define the Pelicans†future

While the rumors of the Pelicans choosing between Zion and Ingram escalate, this season could define what the future holds for both superstars. This season is the first time in years that Ingram and Zion have stayed healthy for the majority of the games. Zion has already played 50 games this season, and Ingram has played 55. The duo has played great together and led the Pelicans to the 5th spot in the Western Conference standings. Zion and Ingram are also having similar performances in terms of stats.

Pelicans Star Suffers Concerning Injury Scare Within Minutes of Return

Zion is averaging 22.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.1 assists. Meanwhile, BI is averaging 21.9 points, 5.8 assists, and 5 rebounds. If both superstars stay healthy for the rest of the season and lead their team deep into the playoffs, the Pelicans might decide to stick with the duo and build around them in the upcoming seasons. With Zion and Ingram averaging similar numbers, it will be hard for the Pelicans to let go of one of these superstars. However, failing in the playoffs this season might lead them to make tough decisions in the summer.

The New Orleans Pelicans will continue their road trip tonight as they face the Indiana Pacers. After losing two straight games at home, Zion Williamson & co. got a dominant win last night against the New York Knicks. The Pelicans hope to carry that momentum and improve their record by winning on back-to-back nights. Fortunately, they will receive a major boost as all their star players will be available for the highly-anticipated clash.

According to NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski, Pacers stars Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram, and CJ McCollum will suit up for tonightâ€s game. Even though Zion and Ingram played last night, their initial status was questionable for the Pacers’ clash.

Ingram suffered a right ankle sprain in yesterdayâ€s game, and Zion has been dealing with a left foot contusion. However, they will play tonight despite their lingering injuries. Meanwhile, a bigger boost for the Pelicans will be the return of veteran guard CJ McCollum.

CJ had been out for the last two games due to a left ankle sprain. He injured his ankle in a game against the Miami Heat last week. McCollum had to leave the game midway after playing only 15 minutes. He was ruled out of the upcoming two games to recover from the ankle injury. The Pelicans went 1-2 in those three games. McCollumâ€s return to the lineup significantly increases the Pelicans†chances to win against the Pacers.

CJ has been a great veteran leader for the Pelicans throughout the season. The 32-year-old guard is averaging 18.8 points, 4.6 assists, and 4.3 rebounds. CJâ€s return adds another offensive weapon to the Pelicans stacked lineup.

How far can the New Orleans Pelicans go this season?

The Pelicans are having one of their best seasons in years. They are currently 5th in the Western Conference standings with a 35-24 record. The Pelicans missed the playoffs last season because Zion Williamson got injured after playing only 29 games and missed the rest of the season. However, that is not the case this year. Zion has already played in 48 games this season. His dominance on the court has helped the Pelicans compete with the best teams in the league. Zion is averaging 22.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 5.1 assists.

Brandon Ingram has also played great all year and has been a solid co-star to Zion. The Pelicans have a deep roster with a solid mixture of young talent and veteran leaders. With the way they have played all season, they are bound to make the playoffs this year. And if their star players stay healthy for the remainder of the season, the Pelicans can even make a deep run in the post-season and upset a few title contenders.

Zion Williamson, the New Orleans Pelicans‘ star, has remained relatively injury-free this season. That is not to say he wasn’t affected by them. A highly touted Duke prospect, Williamson was the unicorn player that people came to watch. Standing at 6’6 and 284 pounds, Zion is not your traditional basketball player. And yet he packed a punch whenever he took the floor.

But it was this powerful frame that was his Achilles heel, too. The simple truth of the matter was he was susceptible to injuries. Highly susceptible. And it seems like the Pelicans’ next matchup against the Knicks will also see a similar situation.

The latest injury report tweeted by the official X handle of the New Orleans Pelicans has Williamson, along with CJ McCollum listed as QUESTIONABLE.

CJ McCollum, Zion Williamson listed as questionable for tomorrow's game against the Knicks.#Pelicans | @MorrisBartLLC https://t.co/dK14y5RKlJ

— New Orleans Pelicans (@PelicansNBA) February 26, 2024

Williamson has a left foot contusion while a left ankle sprain sidelined McCollum. The Pelicans backcourt were already short-handed in their loss to the Bulls previously. But it was the Heat that snapped their four-game winning streak after a tightly contested game took a turn for the worse in the fourth quarter. Along with Jimmy Butler, five players in total were ejected and suspended with heavy fines for the nasty tussle!

The Pelicans are the sixth-seeded team in the West with a 34-24 record. Although the 2020-21 season saw him play 61 games, this season is by far the best in terms of consistency. Out of the 58 games this season, Williamson has played in 47.

Zion Williamson vs Stephen A. Smith

In the NBA, Kawhi Leonard is credited with being the most injury-addled player. But when healthy, he is one of the most lethal and dangerous players ever. Much like ‘Zanos’. The 2x All-Star’s highlight dunks are a fan favorite and when he is on the court, it’s quite electric. But his solid frame often proves to be a block to posting the kind of numbers basketball pundits had projected initially.

While many analysts have spoken at length on the same, Stephen A. Smith’s latest comments on Zion’s eating habits have wreaked havoc. The Pelicans’ X handle had hit back with a troll video highlighting Smith’s unflattering moments and the final nail in the coffin – his college basketball stat sheet. Not one to stay quiet, Stephen A. returned the courtesy in kind with a 10-minute-long rant on his Stephen A. Smith Show.Â

Not even an hour went by before the Pelicans hit back with another post on X. The First Take commentator had advised the Pelicans to “get it together” and focus on winning rather than creating troll videos. Anyway, the Pelicans do have to make some decisions come off-season.

With the former #1 pick being the most important player for his team, it leaves the man in question with much food for thought.

When Anthony Davis hangs his boots, LeBron James will arguably be considered his greatest ever teammate. The superstar duo has won a championship together and wreaked havoc on the league for the last five years. However, there was a duo in ADâ€s career that never got a chance to flourish and reach its true potential. Before AD got traded to the Lakers in 2019, he had a brief stint playing alongside 4-time All-Star DeMarcus Cousins.

Cousins was arguably the best Center in the league, and AD was the biggest rising star when the duo joined forces in 2017. Cousins revealed his careerâ€s biggest “What If” during his appearance on Podcast P with Paul George. Even though the duo did not last long, Cousins compared their potential to a legendary Spurs duo. “I definitely think we could have had like a Tim Duncan-David Robinson type pairing.” That is a massive claim, considering Robinson and Duncan were two of the greatest players in Spurs franchise history. The duo also led the Spurs to two Championships in 1999 and 2003.

However, Cousins†claim does not sound too unrealistic when you think about it. When Cousins got traded to the Pelicans in 2017, he initially believed Sacramento was trying to “kill him out” by teaming him up with Davis, who plays the same position as Cousins. DeMarcus later recognized that Davis was the “most talented guy” he had ever played with and decided to make the most of the opportunity. The duo dominated in their limited time together. Cousins averaged 25.2 points and 12.9 rebounds in the 2017-18 season. Meanwhile, AD put up 28.1 points and 11.1 rebounds.

What led to Anthony Davis-DeMarcus Cousins’ breakup?

AD and Cousins found their rhythm in the 2017-18 season and performed great together. Unfortunately, Cousins suffered a devastating Achilles injury in the middle of the season. That put an end to his 2017-18 campaign and also his time with Davis. Cousins spent the rest of the season recovering from his injury and joined the Golden State Warriors the following season.

Cousins will sign a one-year, $5.3M deal with Warriors, league source tells ESPN. https://t.co/LaTLH3oOTB

The 4-time All-Star believes he “did not get enough time” playing with Davis. The duo played less than one and a half seasons together.

Gives DeMarcus Cousins “Honor” in Struggling Post-NBA Life

Davis and Cousins had the potential to achieve great things in New Orleans. They also had star teammates like Jrue Holiday and Rajon Rondo, who could have helped them win multiple championships. Even host Paul George couldn’t help but agree that the duo forming in New Orleans between Boogie and The Brow was a fearsome one. PG revealed that both players had to be double-teamed because of how dominant they were, and it was a nightmare for the opponents. Unfortunately, the NBA World never got to witness the true potential of the Davis-Cousins duo.

What do you make of Cousins’ claims? Do you think New Orleans would’ve won a few championships had the duo stayed healthy and together? Let us know in the comments.

The inter-conference showdown on Friday saw the Miami Heat outplay the New Orleans Pelicans in a 106-95 victory. However, it was not without some on-court drama. Early in the first quarter, Miami’s Kevin Love fouled Pelicans’ Zion Williamson, causing him to fall and hit in the head on the deck. Pels forward, Naji Marshall took umbrage and confronted Love, prompting Jimmy Butler to intervene. The next thing we know, Marshall is grabbing Butler’s neck. Just when the situation was de-escalating, another brawl broke out on the sidelines between Thomas Bryant, Jose Alvarado, and forward Nikola Jović. As a result, Butler, Bryant, Marshall, and Alvarado were all ejected and missed the rest of the fourth quarter.

The league announced Sunday that Butler would serve a one-game suspension without pay for “instigating and engaging in an on-court altercation,” losing nearly $260,000 in base salary. However, the Miami Heat were surprised that Butler even got suspended, with coach Erik Spoelstra indicating that the ejection should have sufficed. However, the league’s accusations were backed by Shams Charania on the recent episode of FanDuel’s Run It Back.

Charania said, “Jimmy Butler, yeah, that suspension is really the most normal one in all of this. As opposed to Spoelstra and Heat, I think they were surprised that Jimmy Butler got suspended. Jimmy Butler to me, there was a lot of defense being played by him. And he was really just going to bat at the end.”

Butler was not the only player who was disciplined by the league. Marshall and Jovic were also issued a one-game suspension apiece. In addition, the league sanctioned a three-game suspension for Bryant and Alvarado each for “leaving the bench area and entering an on-court altercation.” However, this was not the only fight that took place Friday night.

The unwritten rule drama

The Golden State Warriors swept the Charlotte Hornets this Friday evening in a game that was largely uneventful until the final moments when a scuffle erupted. With just 12 seconds remaining in the game and two seconds left on the shot clock, Golden State guard Lester Quinones attempted a layup that was blocked by Hornets’ wing Miles Bridges. However, the block was later deemed goaltending. Bridges took issue with Quinones’ decision to try to score despite the Warriors holding a comfortable 13-point lead. He believed Quinones was violating an unwritten basketball rule that suggests players should hold the ball rather than run up the score out of respect for the losing team.

Bridges then responded aggressively, shoving Quinones twice, sparking a heated altercation. Grant Williams came to his teammates’ defense and was ejected for escalating the situation. Quinones, in turn, received two technical fouls for his interactions with Williams and Bridges, resulting in an automatic ejection. Additionally, officials assessed a technical foul on Bridges.

The New Orleans Pelicans started their second half of the season on an encouraging note. Powered by Zion Williamson and CJ McCollum’s combined 55 points, the Pels cruised to a commanding 127-105 victory over the Houston Rockets on Thursday. Now, they’ll be aiming to extend their winning streak to five when they meet the injury-ravaged Miami Heat tonight at the Smoothie King Center. However, securing a win tonight might be an uphill battle, considering Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson’s availability.

As per the latest injury report, Zion Williamson has been listed as questionable due to a lingering left foot contusion. Williamson has made a regular appearance on the injury report since late Jan due to a bruised foot but has suited up in nine of the last 11 games. However, he usually rests on the second leg of a back-to-back. Therefore, after he filled the stat sheet with 27 points, nine assists, two steals, and a block in 35 minutes on Thursday, it won’t be surprising if he takes a break tonight. Meanwhile, Brandon Ingram, who missed the last game, is also listed as a game-time decision tonight due to a non-COVID-related illness.

Brandon Ingram (non-COVID illness) and Zion Williamson (left foot contusion) listed as questionable tonight against Miami. New Orleans going for five straight wins.

The only player listed out is Dyson Daniels, who will be re-evaluated in four weeks after he underwent a successful meniscectomy on his left knee on Thursday. The Pelicans are expected to open the game with Brandon Ingram, Trey Murphy III, Zion Williamson, CJ McCollum, Jonas Valanciunas, and Herb Jones.Â

Miami Heat aims to maintain their dominance

Miami will have the perfect opportunity to maintain dominance once again after they outplayed the Pelicans last season with an unbeaten 2-0 season record. The Pelicans have only won a single game out of ten they have played since 2018. Add to this the fact that they will have tired legs coming off a back-to-back. Despite the injuries, the Heat have won six of their last eight games. But it won’t be easy to shake off the rust following a lengthy All-Star break.

The Miami Heat are dealing with five players on the injury report. Orlando Robinson (lower back spasms) and Tyler Herro (right foot) are listed as questionable before the game. However, Miami will be without Terry Rozier (knee), Josh Richardson (dislocated right shoulder), and Dru Smith (knee). Therefore, their starting lineup might feature Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, Tyler Herro, Cody Martin, and Nikola Jovic. If Herro is sidelined come game time, Jaime Jaquez Jr. or Duncan Robinson might take his place.

Can the New Orleans Pelicans keep their winning streak alive? Or will the Miami Heat rain on their parade? What do you think? Let us know in the comments!

Zion Williamson has been a player of enormous promise and potential since his stunning debut in the NBA as the first choice in the 2019 draft. However, the constant criticism about his fitness and effectiveness had placed some doubt on his career with the New Orleans Pelicans. Despite beginning the season in superb shape, Williamson’s performance caused doubts about his commitment to nutrition and exercise. Christian Clark, a Pelicans reporter, has emphasized the team’s displeasure and the necessity for Williamson to improve his nutrition and conditioning.

And following him, ESPN’s famous analyst, Stephen A. Smith also spoke about that and explained what Williamson had to prove to the fans in order to be taken seriously.

Stephen A. Smith suggests Zion Williamson to show love for basketball instead of food

On the ESPN show, Get Up, Stephen A. Smith said, “Zion Williamson, it’s not about his game. It’s about how many burgers he’s eating, its whether he is going to be in shape or keep eating McDonald’s or have chefs clambering for him to come to their restaurants. That’s what he has to prove, that the chefs don’t love him any longer and he is committed to playing basketball.”

Maintaining appropriate playing weight and conditioning is critical for a player like Williamson to achieve peak athletic performance. This demands a disciplined commitment to diet and exercise, including a personalized dietary plan and a tough strength and conditioning program which a team of professionals often supervise to ensure that participants receive all the support they need throughout their fitness journey.

Zion Williamson’s time with the New Orleans Pelicans has been an intriguing narrative filled with incredible skill, high expectations, and persistent questions about his dedication to the sport. And as the club and fans anxiously follow his growth, Williamson must balance his talent with his physical condition. So, the focus stays completely on him as he navigates the complexity of his NBA career, with each game providing an opportunity to reinvent his narrative and cement his place among the league’s top.

Now as the 23-year-old forward will navigate the challenges, the Pelicans, along with fans and analysts, will keep an eye on his growth, hoping that he will realize his enormous potential and quiet his critics once and for all.

The New Orleans Pelicans pulled off an impressive 117-106 upset victory, effectively limiting the Los Angeles Clippers‘ Big 4. As a result of the victory, the Pelicans are now on a four-game hot run and sit comfortably in the 6th spot in the West. Despite CJ McCollum‘s game-high 25 points, seven rebounds, and four assists, what drew eyeballs was Zion Williamson‘s insane playmaking which was on full display during the game.

Williamson started the game cold, contributing only two points 24 minutes into the game. However, he woke just in time to save the day, efficiently dropping 19 points to lead the Pels to the win. The Duke alum erupted for 21 points and 10 assists, only one assist shy of his career-high number. After humbling the resurgent Clippers clan, the 2x NBA All-Star divulged his honest thoughts on taking on the role of a point guard in the recent victory. “Man I’m having a lot of fun. Got a lot of shooters out there and they’re gonna knock the shots down,” said Zion when asked whether he enjoys playing Point Zion.

— Zion Williamson on if he enjoys playing Point Zion pic.twitter.com/ovYxx85Y5Z

However, this role change is not new to him. The Pels have been polishing him as a point guard for a few years now.

The ‘Point Zion’ experiment

After entering the league billed as the next generational talent, Williamson quickly garnered a reputation for his elite second jump. This unique combination enables him to dominate the boards in a way few others can. As a result, second-chance points and secured defensive rebounds became part and parcel of what Williamson brings to the New Orleans Pelicans rotation.

However, this was not enough for the former coach, Stan Van Gundy, who wanted to develop Williamson into a multi-faceted offensive weapon. Therefore, he decided to experiment with Zion in the point guard position. And, as evident, it paid great dividends.

Read More: Zion Williamson and Co Muffle Streaking Hot Clippers†Dream Run

As a result, Point Zion was born. It did not take him long to get comfortable with the role, either. His stepfather raised him as a point guard before he committed to Duke. As Zion himself said in an interview with Forbes, “It just feels natural to me. Iâ€ve been playing the game since I was 4. At this point, it just feels natural. Iâ€m still learning. But certain things just do feel natural.”

Zion Williamson’s enhanced passing has elevated the Pelicans’ offensive attack. His most frequent assist target has been CJ McCollum, who is averaging 19.4 points this season. The dynamic is clearly working, as evidenced by the win against the Clippers. What are your thoughts on Williamson playing the point guard position? Let us know in the comments!

The New Orleans Pelicans will go head-to-head against the Houston Rockets tonight. It is a highly anticipated clash as both teams are young and trying to book a spot in the playoffs. However, the Pelicans will have their work cut out because they will play without their superstar, Zion Williamson. According to the latest Pelicans injury report, Zion has been ruled out of tonightâ€s game due to a left foot bone contusion.

Zionâ€s health has been in question the entire season, and he has been in and out of the lineup frequently. Zion has played in 38 of the 47 games so far and missed his most recent game last week against the OKC Thunder. The severity of Williamsonâ€s injury is unknown, and it is uncertain when he will return to action. Apart from Zion, Forward Herb Jones will miss his second straight game tonight due to right adductor soreness.

Zion Williamson and Herb Jones are out for the Pelicans, Willie Green said.

— Jonathan Feigen (@Jonathan_Feigen) January 31, 2024

These are two massive blows for the Pelicans, as Zion and Herb have played great this season when available. Herb has been a decent role player for the Pelicans, averaging 10.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.5 assists. Zion has also had an All-Star-caliber season this year. He is averaging 22 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.7 assists and has already played 9 more games than he did last season.

The Pelicans are on a three-game losing streak heading into tonightâ€s game, and they desperately needed Zion Williamson in the lineup to come out with a much-needed win. The Pelicans are currently 8th in the Western Conference standings with a 26-21 record and fighting to avoid the play-in situation. However, Zionâ€s injury could ruin their chances like the previous seasons.

Zion Williamsonâ€s shaky NBA career

Although Zion Williamson is one of the most talented young players in the NBA, his career has not turned out how everyone imagined. Zion was the number 1 pick in the 2019 NBA draft and the most hyped prospect since LeBron James in 2003. Zionâ€s dominant performance at Duke University and incredible athleticism took the NBA World by storm, and he was deemed the next face of the league. However, Zionâ€s career has been plagued by injuries since he entered the NBA.

Zion has never played more than 61 games in a season throughout his career. He also missed the entire 2021-22 season due to a foot injury. Zion plays like a superstar whenever he is healthy and available on the floor. Unfortunately, the fans hardly get a chance to witness Zionâ€s greatness, as he is mostly on the injury report. This season has been his most healthy year since 2020-21. Hopefully, Zion can recover from his injury and return to action soon.
