Gabrine Muguruza

The Spanish Number one tennis player, Garbine Muguruza plays with powerful groundstrokes and an aggressive style of tennis. She was born on 8 October 1993 to a Venezuelan mother, Scarlet Blanco and a Basque father, José Antonio Muguruza in Caracas, Venezuela. Muguruza started playing tennis at the age of three. Her family moved to Spain when she was six and she trained at the Bruguera Tennis Academy near Barcelona. She turned a professional in the year 2012 since then she has won two majors.

On-court achievements

Garbine Muguruza won her first WTA title at the Hobart International. In 2015 she made to the finals at the Wimbledon and lost to the eventual champion, Serena Williams. Later won two the 2016 French Open and 2017 Wimbledon. She defeated Serena in the Paris major and Venus at the SW19 major.

Garbine Muguruza is the Ambassador for the international education NGO Room to Read which promotes early grade literacy and equal access to secondary education for girls.
