UFC president Dana White has revealed that the winner of the main event of UFC 249 will face Khabib Nurmagomedov next. ‘The Eagle’ would have defended his title against Tony Ferguson, but the cursed match-up witnessed yet another cancellation.
Travel bans and restrictions posed several obstacles for the promotion. However, White confirmed he has 2 locations locked down for UFC 249 and upcoming cards. A stacked card was announced for UFC 249, with Justin Gaethje replacing Khabib in the main event.

‘The Highlight’ is certainly a worthy contender for the interim belt. The fighter is on a 3-win streak and was last seen in action against Donald Cerrone. A prolific stand-up fighter and wrestler, he’ll prove to be a tough test for Tony Ferguson.
One man who’s surely disappointed with the news is ‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor. The fighter has been itching for a rematch with Khabib after he suffered a submission loss, back in 2018.
‘The Notorious’ returned to the octagon in style, knocking out Cerrone in 40 seconds. The most obvious choice for ‘The Notorious’ seems to be a trilogy bout with Nate Diaz. However, with Conor looking comfortable at 170″ a fight against Kamaru Usman or Jorge Masvidal is a possibility as well.
With UFC events back up and running, fight fans have something to look forward to. With locations secured and several potential match-ups at all weight categories, exciting times are ahead for the promotion irrespective of the ongoing pandemic.
