The day after Christmas, the wrestling world woke up to a nightmare. Noted WWE and AEW superstar Brodie Lee (fka Luke Harper) has passed away. After the initial shock of the news, tributes and consolation from all over the world started pouring in.
Former WWE Women’s Champion, Becky Lynch, shared a close relationship with Brodie Lee (real name Jonathan Huber). ‘The Man’ posted a long heartfelt message on her Instagram account following the unfortunate news.
Lynch looked back on her times with Huber and wrote, “He was beloved by all in the locker room and was an absolute blast to be around. He was an incredible friend who always made you laugh and talked me off the ledge when I was struggling more times than I could count.”
One of the most interesting things that we see in the tributes for Lee is that each of them talks about his love for his family. Lynch continued that trend as she said, “Of all the wonderful things about him, most importantly, he was the most loving and devoted husband and father. My heart goes out to his family that he adored so much.”
Lynch recently gave birth to a baby girl. As a new mother, her heart weeped for Huber’s family, especially his two kids.
After the heartbreaking news of Huber’s passing came, many wondered whether it was becaus of COVID. Lee was out of in-ring action since October.
However, Huber’s wife Amanda revealed in an Instagram post that Huber passed away “after a hard-fought battle with a non-Covid related lung issue.”
She went on to thank the AEW management. She is heartbroken, but people around her are helping her in overcoming this trial.
Soon after the news broke, AEW posted an official statement where they said, “Jon’s popularity among his peers and influence on the wrestling world was worldwide and transcended AEW, so the loss will be felt by many for a long time.”
AEW was obviously referring to WWE and his other wrestling ventures. As wrestling fans, we send our thoughts and prayers to his family. R.I.P Brodie Lee.
