Chris Jericho is a living legend of the pro wrestling business. The veteran has been wrestling full-time since 1990 and there seems to be no stopping even three decades later! What’s best is over the last three decades, Jericho has added layers to his character and that’s what has been quintessential for his success.

Currently, Jericho calls AEW his home. And the ‘Y2J’ that we knew for all these years is now the ‘Demo God,’ the ‘Le Champion’ of AEW. Chris Jericho doesn’t dwell on achievements in the past and always likes to be relevant to the time and age. This is a major reason why he hates it when fans still refer to him as ‘Y2J.’

Why Chris Jericho doesn’t want to be called ‘Y2J’ in AEW or anywhere else

Recently, a fan asked Jericho on Twitter why he got upset at fans this past week on Dynamite: Road Rager when they chanted ‘Y2J’ at him. The former AEW World Champion saw the tweet and gave a proper explanation for it.

Jericho said the nickname and the character associated with it are over 15 years old. Plus, it’s from his time in WWE where he had a different mindset compared to his mindset now in AEW. Jericho also added that ‘Y2J’ doesn’t exist him anymore.

While Chris Jericho wants nothing to do with ‘Y2J’ anymore, it’s a lifelong wrestling memory for millions of pro wrestling fans. Many fans took to Twitter and expressed displeasure with Jericho’s comment. After all, Y2J and his debut is a first pro wrestling memory for a lot of fans.

Yes, we understand Jericho wants to carve a legacy and character that is fresh and not seen before for AEW. But doing so and disowning his former nickname that played part in putting him over isn’t probably the best thing to do.
