Ric Flair on Sting Teaming Up with CM Punk: “It’s Like When WWE Brings Back Steve Austin”

WWE Hall of Famer and wrestling legend Sting has surprised everyone with his in-ring abilities at the age of 62. The AEW superstar recently wrestled a match against The FTR and MJF.

That episode of AEW Dynamite reported a million-plus viewership for Tony Khan, something which AEW has not done in a long time. The performance of Sting, CM Punk, and Darby Allin was well received by the backstage authorities.

Eventually, the two-time WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair heaped praise on the Stinger and other wrestlers for putting out a brilliant match on last week’s edition of AEW Dynamite.

Ric Flair calls Sting an “icon”

Speaking on the latest episode of his podcast, ‘The Wooooo Nation’, the 16-time world champion confessed that whatever Sting has done for the wrestling business is respectable.

‘The Nature Boy’ further talked about Sting’s mannerisms between the ropes and confessed that he put on a great performance at the age of 62.

Eventually, this main event match on Dynamite surely boosted the ratings and Flair compared this moment with Stone Cold Steve Austin appearing for an episode of Raw.

“He is legitimately what we call an icon. And he’s given so much to business and he actively participated in the match. He looked great. It’s kind of like when they [WWE] bring back [Steve] Austin to Raw, they’re gonna get the number because of who the main event guy is.”

“They all did a great job. Everybody worked together, nobody seemed to be upset with anybody else.”

This indicates the star power of Sting and CM Punk and, eventually, how certain entities make the difference.

Ric Flair and Sting have produced classic matches together in the 80s and 90s. The future for Sting in AEW looks great. However, it is unlikely that we will ever see a belt around the former WCW champion. His current stint with Darby Allin is greatly applauded by wrestling fans around the globe.

The former WWE champion CM Punk is currently feuding with MJF and it may be the toughest opponent for Punk since his arrival in AEW.
