This Week’s AEW Dynamite (3/3/21) saw two huge giants making their big AEW debuts. Former ‘rivals,’ Shaquille O’Neal and Big Show, made their respective debuts on the show.

As Shaq won the opening match with Jade Cargill, fans braced themselves for the debut of Big Show, now known as Paul Wight. Legendary TNT announcer Tony Schiavone welcomed Wight to AEW as a “no more BS” chant broke out from the crowds.

Starting from March 15, Wight and Schiavone will host the “AEW Dark: Elevation” show on YouTube on Mondays. Wight joked around how no one saw this turn coming, and the seven-time world champion was pleased with AEW.

He promoted the upcoming show a bit more as he spoke about his passion for commentating. However, the biggest shock came towards the end as Wight gave the fans a ‘spoiler’ for the upcoming AEW Revolution.

“This Sunday on Evolution (Revolution), AEW is going to hire, but in contract, a Hall of Fame-worthy talent, that is a surprise and a huge asset to AEW,” Wight revealed. “But listen, it’s not who you think (it is.)”

“But this Sunday, you’re going to find out who it is. And I want you to know that I knew who it was first. Tune in to find out who it is,” Wight concluded.

AEW was not only successful with the debuts of Shaquille O’Neal and Big Show, but they also hooked the fans for their upcoming PPV.

Chris Jericho opens up on Paul Wigh fka Big Show on AEW

Jericho mentioned Wight during his AEW ‘press conference’ as one of his legendary tag team partners. Recently, while speaking to Digital Spy, Jericho spoke about his former WWE and current AEW colleague.

He was considered to be a WWE tentpole, one of the foundations of the company but they weren’t really using him,” the ‘Le Champion’ said. “But I know the value of [Wight], he’s got one thing you can’t teach, experience and who he is as a character, understanding comedy, drama and when to be violent.”

Jericho has been in a mentorship role to many of the young talents of AEW, and he believes Big Show can have a similar impact.

“I also know that he’s a great mentor for some of our bigger guys that we have, Lance Archer and Luchasaurus, those types of guys, and most importantly I know how dangerous a motivated Big Show can be.”
