Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain Shrugs off Suggestions of a Row with Manchester United Fans

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was seen laughing off a row with Manchester United fans after home supporters had refused to bump fists with the Liverpool star in the aftermath of their draw at Old Trafford.

The 26-year-old was clearly told to ‘f**k off’ by one fan, while another United fan rejected Oxlade-Chamberlain’s offer of a conciliatory fist bump near the tunnel.

The midfielder promptly headed back to the dressing room with a smile on his face and a shrug of the shoulders after the bizarre altercation.

It was unclear why Oxlade-Chamberlain elected to approach the pair soon after the full-time whistle.

Some suggested that the former Arsenal man had received a frosty reception from that section of the ground during the pre-match warm-ups.

And soon after referee Martin Atkinson had called a halt to a feisty encounter in Manchester, the star was filmed heading over to the group of supporters gathered at the base of the stand.

But after bounding over with a grin on his face, Oxlade-Chamberlain was instructed to go away in no uncertain terms while two stewards stood close by to maintain order.

The midfielder had been introduced by Jurgen Klopp with the current table toppers aiming to maintain their unbeaten start to the new campaign.

However, it was fellow substitute Adam Lallana who was the hero of the day with a close-range finish at the far post following lapse defending from Liverpool’s arch-rivals.

Marcus Rashford had fired United into the lead in the first half in controversial circumstances, after the hosts capitalised on hesitation from the European champions to break away and tee up the English frontman.

Boss Jurgen Klopp was left incensed as United celebrated, with Divock Origi seemingly fouled by Victor Lindelof in the build-up to the game’s opening goal. However, VAR sided with the match officials and allowed Rashford’s strike to stand.
