Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev to Join Novak Djokovic at US Open 2020

More Top 10 players commit to playing in New York as 2019 US Open finalist Daniil Medvedev and World No.7 Alexander Zverev confirmed their participation in this year’s edition. They join World No.1 Novak Djokovic after the Serbian announced his participation yesterday.

This will come as a relief for the organizers as many players had raised concerns over the restrictions in place. And with the general scare of the coronavirus, many players withdrew from the tournament. Defending Champions Rafael Nadal and Bianca Andreescu announced their withdrawal from the US Open recently. WTA World No.1 Ash Barty as well decided against traveling to the US due to the virus.

Medvedev announced his participation in style. He posted a picture on Instagram wearing fabrics from the apparel giant Lacoste. And in the caption showed his excitement.

Alexander Zverev’s Announcement

Alexander Zverev’s participation was announced by his management team. They say Zverev will travel on Saturday and will play the three weeks in Flushing Meadows.

“He will leave on Saturday and will participate in the US Open. He has been registered for about three weeks and has been in full preparation mode ever since.” Zverev’s management team 8 Global told SID.

Earlier Zverev showed his worries around the US Open. The situation in the US was discouraging for the players and many raised concerns. Zverev might have had long discussions with his team after which he took his decision.

The Cincinnati Open will be the season restarter for ATP. The WTA has already restarted. This time to reduce travel the Cincinnati Open will be played in the Flushing Meadows 1 week before the US Open on the 22nd of August. The US Open will begin on the 31st of August.
