The organizers of the US Open are trying to play the tournament this year amid the unprecedented situation caused due to the coronavirus pandemic and the ongoing ‘Black Lives Matter’ protests across the USA. Consequently, Nick Kyrgios slammed the ATP and the US Open for being selfish during the global health crisis. However, Amanda Anisimova, who is a good friend of Kyrgios, disagrees with him.
“The ATP is trying to make the US Open go ahead. Selfish with everything going on at the moment,” he tweeted. Obviously COVID, but also with the riots, together we need to overcome these challenges before tennis returns in my opinion,” wrote Kyrgios in a tweet.

Kyrgios’ compatriot John Millman also echoed the former’s concern. Millman explained that he loves the US Open but he labeled it a bit ‘crazy’ to hold the Grand Slam event.
However, the 18-year-old Anisimova rejected their concern. The American replied to the conversation between Millman and Kyrgios and insisted that it is worth a shot. However, Amanda deleted the tweet afterward.

“I don’t see why not give it a try. Of course, there will be a ton of safety protocols in place, and many precautions made. Other sports are coming back, so why can’t tennis? Playing without fans is a huge bummer, but at least we get to play at all,” Anisimova wrote as quoted by News Corp.

Nevertheless, the USTA is still trying every possible alternative to hold the US Open 2020. One of the alternatives is to play behind closed doors.
Moreover, the organizers are also planning to make some strict measures to ensure the safety of those involved. The protocols might include players traveling with a limited entourage and being quarantine near the venue. The final decision to hold the US Open 2020 is expected to come on 15th June.
