Ambati Rayudu Announces His Retirement From International Cricket

India middle-order batsman Ambati Rayudu has announced his retirement from International Cricket after being overlooked two times in the ongoing ICC World Cup. He was earlier included in the reserves for the India team ahead of the World Cup.

Prior to the World Cup, his non-selection in the 15-member squad raised eyebrows. Vijay Shankar got the preference over him when many questioned on this. However, recently team India have been dealing with injuries. At first, their in-form opener Shikhar Dhawan and then all-rounder Vijay Shankar.

Rishabh Pant has replaced Dhawan in the squad whereas Mayank Agarwal has been named the replacement of Vijay Shankar. Despite being there in the reserve list, Ambati Rayudu has been overlooked twice and he had been trolled on social media as well.

That certainly was heartbreak for Rayudu, who was the unofficially number four batsman since Asia Cup last year, and many experts from the cricketing world felt that he should be included.

Though he is yet to make an official announcement, a Board official said to PTI that he has informed BCCI about his decision. “He has told the Board,” the official said.

Rayudu earlier also trolled by the fans when he shared a controversial tweet after getting to know about Vijay Shankar’s selection over him for the World Cup. He wrote, “Just Ordered a new set of 3d glasses to watch the world cup.” This was, however, the reply to Chairman of selectors MSK Prasad’s move where he shared that Shankar had “three-dimensional skills”.

Having made his debut for India in 2013, Rayudu had played 55 One Day Internationals and 6 Twenty20 Internationals where he scored 1694 and 42 runs respectively. He has played 97 First class matches, 160 List A games and 216 T20s where he has scored nearly 15,000 runs so far. He plays for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League and proved an important player of the side. He is a handy right-arm offbreak bowler also.
