2020 has been an exceptional year for video games but has been a breakout year for a title like Among Us. InnerSloth released the game back in 2018, but it took almost two years to make a dent in the industry.

It did take a while for the title to garner interest in the minds of the players, but once it did, there was no stopping it. Content creators played a massive role in helping the title reach the apex it has. What started with a stream worth a hundred viewers gradually escalated to thousands and eventually millions. Players started trying their luck at the game, which culminated in Among Us bagging the Best Multiplayer Game of 2020 win at The Game Awards 2020.

Reports have surfaced indicating that Among Us had over half a billion active users in the month of November. These are the highest numbers for any mobile game and beat titles like Pokemon Go and Candy Crush Saga.

According to Nielsen’s SuperData, the game is “by far the most popular game ever in terms of monthly players.” The report also highlights that the PC version of the game generates over 64% share of profit, the player base only accounts for a mere 3% of the game’s total players.

Among Us is managed by a team of four employees

Team InnerSloth comprises just four employees. That’s roughly 125 million players per employee who works on the title.

There were rumors that the devs were working on a sequel to the game to try to revive it. However, those plans were put aside to work on the original title that was breaking the internet.

Among Us has remained a popular choice also because of its accessibility. It is available on mobile for free and for a mere $5 on PC. InnerSloth also released the title on Nintendo Switch to expand its player base.

More importantly, the title has become a household name because it is complex enough for competitive gamers and the premise is also simple enough for virtually any casual gamer.

InnerSloth hasn’t taken this success for granted. The devs, for a while, have been trying to include new content to sustain the interest the title has generated. As a result, the devs have alluded to an Airship map with new tasks which will roll out early next year but are already available for Switch users via a glitch.
