Los Angeles Lakers centre, DeMarcus Cousins has been issued with an arrest warrant on charges of domestic violence in Mobile, Alabama.

“An arrest warrant has been issued,” a spokesperson for the Mobile Police Department told USA Today.

The warrant came after Cousins was reported to have threatened his former girlfriend, Christy West, a day before he was about to marry his current girlfriend Morgan Lang.

It was understood to be about their 7-year old son attending the wedding.

TMZ obtained an audio of the reported incident which went like this: “I’m gonna ask you this one more time before I take it to another level,” the man says. “Can I have my son here, please?”

The Lakers addressed the incident in a statement Tuesday.

“We are aware of the allegation involving DeMarcus Cousins and, of course, take this claim seriously,” the statement read. “We are in the process of gathering information and will reserve further comment at this time.”

Having played the previous season for the Golden State Warrios, 29-year old Cousins signed a contract for Los Angeles Lakers in July for one year. But earlier this month, Cousins suffered a cruel injury while training in his dreaded left leg.

Cousins, who has suffered quite a few drastic injuries in his career wanted to play the full season with Lakers with a fit body.

“I’m working my tail off every single day,” Cousins told ESPN of his health when he had signed for the Lakers. “My quad is 100 percent healed. I’m building it up every day and building up my lower body every single day, and I’m getting stronger, getting in better shape. My plan is to come into training camp in tip-top shape. My goal is to play 82 games this season. I want a full season of health and going to the playoffs, and whatever happens happens.”

The injury seems to have shattered his hopes for the upcoming season, but the injury can also be benificial to him in another way. At the time when an arrest warrant is issued on him, the injury makes him ineligible to fly. This might delay the arrest until the time he recovers from the injury, which does not seem to be happening at anytime in the near future.
