Swiss former tennis star Roger Federer recently bid an emotional farewell to professional tennis. The 40-year-old was struggling with knee issues and also went under the knife. While the fans eagerly awaited his return, he returned to the Laver Cup only to play his last tournament.

Ever since, fans have been eager to see the tennis legend back on the court. They finally got the opportunity when Federer returned to the court. However, it was not a tennis racket in his hand this time. Here’s what happened.

Currently in Dubai, the 20-time Grand Slam champion decided to hit the court again. However, he had a padel instead of a tennis racket in hand this time. Later, the 40-year-old also shared pictures from the same on his Instagram account.

Sharing the picture on his Instagram story, the 20-time Grand Slam champion wrote. “Excited to be back on the court with Severino.”

Federer played his last professional tennis match in the Laver Cup. He paired up with Spanish tennis great Rafael Nadal to play a doubles match against the American duo of Frances Tiafoe and Jack Sock. It ended up in heartbreak for Federer fans as the legendary duo lost the match and it ended up being Federer’s last professional appearance.

Federer fans were delighted to see him in Wimbledon last year, and there were hopes for him to attend the Australian Open this year as well. However, there’s some bad news for his fans in Australia.

Federer declined Tennis Australia’s invitation to attend the Australian Open

Roger Federer is among the most loved sports personalities in the world. His fans were hopeful of getting a glimpse of the legendary player in the Australian Open. Tennis Australian extended an invitation to the former tennis star when he was playing in his last tournament.

However, the 40-year-old opted out of the visit and rather chose to spend some quality time with his family. Tennis Australia hasn’t given up and is still persistent to get him back in the next season. In 2024 it will be the 20th anniversary of Federer’s first Australian Open victory. It will be interesting to see if the legend will attend it next time
