Talking about Nick Kyrgios’ outbursts on the court is not a new thing anymore. Recently, Kyrgios paid $22,000 to a British charity after he recently lost a defamation case. Kyrgios had alleged that the concerned fan was drunk during his final against Novak Djokovic at the Wimbledon Championships earlier this year.

Eventually, the Australian player apologized for his words and donated a significant amount to her choice of charity.

Nick Kyrgios apologizes for making allegations against a fan at Wimbledon 2022

The Australian player finally had a good year in 2022. However, as his on-court performances improved throughout the season, his outbursts have also come under heavy scrutiny. Fans witnessed one such outburst during the final of the Wimbledon Championships. During the biggest match of his career, Kyrgios complained to the chair umpire about a spectator who was distracting him while he was serving against Djokovic.

When asked by the umpire to elaborate, Kyrgios said, “The one with the dress, the one who looks like she’s had about 700 drinks, bro!” The spectator, Anna Palus, filed a defamation lawsuit against him.

After he lost the lawsuit, Kyrgios stated, “I accept that belief was mistaken, and I apologize.” Furthermore, he stated, “To make amends, I have donated 20,000 pounds to the Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity, a charity chosen by Ms. Palus. I will not be commenting on this matter again.”

This is not the only time that the player has been aggressive on the court. During his fourth-round match against Jannik Sinner at the Miami Open, the player once had a breakdown on the court. Furthermore, he went on to indulge in a row with the chair umpire, which nearly got him disqualified. He has often been compared with Andre Agassi as the American tennis legend too, had his fair share of on-court outbursts.

The Australian player finally had a fruitful year. He reached his first Grand Slam final at SW19. Kyrgios was scheduled to face Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals. However, the Spaniard withdrew because of his injuries.

So, Kyrgios faced off against Novak Djokovic in the final. Despite playing his first Grand Slam final, Kyrgios didn’t hold himself back. The Wimbledon authorities eventually fined him for using inappropriate language in front of Prince George, who had come to watch his first Wimbledon match with his parents.

Despite his disappointing performance in the final, the 2022 ATP Tour was his most successful to date. He won his first singles title of the season at the Citi Open, while also making it to the quarterfinals of the US Open.
