Individual competitions carry the emotions for a particular player but the team events are a lot more than that. They are about collaborating with the team, putting in your efforts, and cheering other team members up to do the same. The Laver Cup recently took to Twitter to reveal that Carlos Alcaraz will be making his first appearance at the tournament in 2024 as the face of Team Europe.

While the authorities were expecting the fans to boast about the update and cheer up for having the young champion on the team, the response came out contrary. While the posters came out to raise multiple questions in the minds of the fans, their comments equaled the number of shocks that the authorities and the young rising star endured.

The Laver Cup, the annual men’s tennis tournament that pits Team Europe against Team World, recently revealed its latest poster on Twitter. The poster features two legends of the sport, Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe, along with a new face topping them. They are seen facing each other in a tense pose, while the rising star Carlos Alcaraz stands above them.

The poster also announces that Alcaraz, the 20-year-old Spanish sensation who won Wimbledon this year, will make his debut for Team Europe at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin on September 20, 2024.

As soon as the official page shared this update, fans started to come up with unexpected comments, sharing their unique perspective and doubts on the update, instead of cheering for the news. A fan slammed the authorities for using just Alcaraz’s picture while the tournament is a team event. He commented, “So much for the team competition. Apparently only one player matters. Quite disgraceful for the other players.”

Another fan, dropping the same perspective in a rather sarcastic tone, said, “Desperation . Other players are bridesmaids”.

Switching the perspectives to doubt, some comments came with questions of whether Alcaraz would keep up with his decision or withdraw. The comment said, “So you are confirming 100% his attendance? What if he doesn’t play? Shall I get my money back??”

Another fan, instead of asking whether the young Spaniard would stay in the tournament or not, directly made a bold prediction. He mentioned, “Bold prediction: Alcaraz will withdraw from 2024 Laver Cup before its start.”

Another fan, directly slamming the authorities for the irrelevant decisions, commented, “Irrelevant tournament from rich monkeys to rich monkeys…”

As the comments continued to flow in, the news of Carlos Alcaraz making a debut at the Laver Cup 2024 didn’t seem to excite the fans in the manner that the authorities expected.

However, besides the fans, Roger Federer’s recent desire seemed to be fulfilled with this announcement.

Roger Federer’s desire to see Alcaraz compete in the game

Roger Federer, the 20-time Grand Slam champion, revealed his desire to see Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz in the same team for the Laver Cup. The Swiss legend said this in an interview earlier this year. Coming up with a statement after fate started to turn negative for team Europe, the Swiss tennis legend mentioned, “I would like to see Novak again, Alcaraz and Novak on the same team.”
