When Roger Federer received a warning to steer clear of Mirka

Even before winning his first Slam title, the 20-time Grand Slam champion found love on the tennis court. After meeting Mirka in 2000, Federer was ready to date a woman who was three years older than him. Recently, ‘The Cracks’ posted a video on its official Facebook handle and showcased that the Swiss maestro’s life would have been incomplete without his wife’s support. In that video, there was a moment that revealed that there was a time when the 20-year-old received a loud and clear warning from those around him.

They warned him to stay away from his now-wife. The alarm bells rang with the message, “Don’t go out with Mirka.” But Federer being Federer, didn’t listen to anyone and started meeting Mirka in secret. Even Sven Groeneveld, former head of the Swiss Tennis Federation, shared a conversation from that time.

He said, “Roger was young. He hadn’t developed yet, emotionally. Actually, he asked all of us; you know, “what do you think? should I start dating Mirka?” And we said that, “No, you shouldn’t do that you know. You are too young, you have got too much to look forward to. Stay free.”

Fortunately, rebelling against the warning literally changed Federer’s life, having a very positive impact on his tennis career and personal space. Naturally, there came a time when he expressed his love towards his wife for being the rock in his corner.

There would be no Roger Federer without Mirka

During the start of the 2012 tennis season, Federer expressed his gratitude to his wife for being there for him through thick and thin. In a heartfelt confession to The New York Times, he stated that he doesn’t want to stay away from her, and neither does his wife during his long tours on the circuit.

Along with that, he also stated that Mirka, being an incredible woman in his life, was always the one willing to make the effort of trying to manage and raise the kids and, at the same time, be with him on tennis tours. Further, he stated that it would basically be impossible for him to compete and play at the highest level without his wife’s support.
