When players are at the top, they are in line to receive various bonuses after they complete certain fulfilments. The ATP has a bonus for players who rank in the top five in the rankings of ATP 500 tournaments. A list came to light recently, which shows Carlos Alcaraz at the top, who is set to win the biggest bonus. However, he is about to relinquish the top spot to Daniil Medvedev and lose $300,000.

Carlos Alcaraz could’ve found a way to make sure Medvedev never closed the gap between them. However, a massive $800,000 barrier caused his absence from the Vienna Open which now enables the Russian star to earn the big bonus.

The ATP has a ranking system for the players who participated in the 500 tournaments throughout the year. Currently, Carlos Alcaraz is at the top with 1480 points, and he is followed by Daniil Medvedev, who currently has 1435 points. The difference between the points of the two players is not great, and this gap is about to be reduced even further.

Medvedev won his round one bout and, given his performance in the last few months, is likely to win even more rounds. The bonus for the player who has the highest points in the ATP 500 is $600,000. The player in the second spot will take home $300,000. Medvedev has to win the next two rounds in order to trump Carlos Alcaraz’s ranking. He is highly likely to win the top prize for the ATP 500 rankings as he is in great form currently. But why is Carlos Alcaraz not doing anything about it?

Daniil Medvedev has a good chance to take the top spot in the ATP 500 rankings from the world number 2. However, Carlos Alcaraz’s absence came because of his immense appearance fee.

Now, it might cost the Spaniard a big bonus, but on the other hand, his market value has expanded exponentially. Alcaraz is likely to close the financial gap with little to no issues.
