American Taylor Fritz took on German Dominik Koepfer in the French Open 2021 second round. However, after fighting for four sets, he lost the match 3-6, 2-6, 6-3, and 4-6.

More than the loss, the 30th seed Fritz also suffered a physical injury, which might sting him more. Until now, the nature of the damage is unknown.

During the last point, the 23-year-old American injured his knee and was struggling, eventually being made to leave the court in a wheelchair. Fortunately, the injury did not look serious, and hopefully, a short treatment might do it right.

After losing two straight sets, Taylor had found his way back into the game. Hence, he would arguably have a bitter aftertaste as his Roland-Garros 2021 journey had to end this way.

Tennis fans who witnessed the match live considered the fall as devastating. If that turns out to be correct, it will put his grass-court season into doubt.

Hopefully, it is nothing serious because many fans want to see him on the court soon. But, given the way he fell, a verified source confirmed that it did look bad.

In the end, Taylor lost an opportunity to do well on the Parisian clay. As a result of his loss, Dominik will go ahead and play in the third round. Without a doubt, it is sad for every tennis fan to see a player leave the court in a wheelchair.

Let us hope that his leg is fine, and we will see him flourish in 15 days on a grass court.

The American No.1 hadn’t had a stable start to his 2021. However, he did manage to reach two semifinals – Qatar Open and Sardegna Open.

Interestingly, Fritz also met Serbian World No.1 Novak Djokovic twice on the court this year, in Melbourne and Italy. On both occasions, he battled toe-to-toe but eventually lost to the 18-time Grand Slam champion.

Moreover, if Fritz had won against Dominik, he might have had the opportunity to play either Roger Federer or Marin Cilic in the third round. Undoubtedly, the German World No.59 will now cherish his next match.
