Defeating the 24-time singles Grand Slam champion and top-seeded Novak Djokovic is not an easy task, but the young Italian tennis star has done it without conceding a single break point. Well, this personality has a lot more to offer outside of the Tennis court.

With some brilliant racket skills at his disposal, the fourth-ranked player in the world has the potential to take over as the new landlord of these hard courts in Melbourne. However, it is quite the contrast from Jannik Sinner’s early days in his home country, where he was a standout junior skier. Despite being the national junior runner-up in the giant slalom, the Italian decided to enter the realm of the racket game at the age of 12.

While speaking about his passion for skiing in an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, Jannik said, “Skiing gave me many good things, starting with the ability to manage an advantage.” The new generation on the ATP Tour has grown up idolizing the likes of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, who are a part of the ‘Big 3.’ However, the 22-year-old player has been a huge admirer of alpine skier Bode Miller, who has spurred his imagination since his childhood.

“I was fascinated by this crazy guy (Miller); he was extroverted and I was shy,”  explained the young Italian tennis star as he opened up about how he has always been fascinated by Bode. He went on to talk about the Olympic gold medalist and his idol’s performances by saying, “Bode was different: he won or crashed. And I looked like him in the snow: I got on the podium or I didn’t reach the finish line.”
