The Davis Cup ended recently, which signaled the end of the season for ATP players. Italy won the tournament as they beat 28-time champion Australia. The Italian team celebrated their victory while Australia was left fuming. When asked about what they would like to change, Lleyton Hewitt, the 42-year-old star, said that he would love to change the surface. Reading his explanations, fans couldn’t help but agree with him.

Many stars have come out to speak out against the current form of the Davis Cup. Novak Djokovic has been one prominent voice as he said that it needs to revert back to its old format while maintaining some of its current changes.

Fans agree with Lleyton Hewitt as he talks about the Davis Cup

Italy beat Australia without giving them any leeway in the final. The tournament ended with them as the champions in Malaga, and Australians were left despondent. After the match, Hewitt said that the tournament has to change once again and become what it used to be once again. 

He explained, “No five set matches, no locals, always playing on the same surface. I’m quite tired of always competing on the same type of court, that’s not what this competition is meant to be.” Many fans couldn’t help but agree with his comments.

One user said that Hewitt was spot on, and the Davis Cup has become a joke now.

Another user agreed with the Aussie. They further said the ATP Finals should follow a similar track and shouldn’t take place on indoor hard courts each year.

One user talked about Djokovic’s comments as the Serbinator said that the tournament should move around instead of being in one place for a long time.

Another user said that it should revert back to the old format.

One tennis fan said that the organizers wanted to turn the Davis Cup commercially attractive, and in doing so, they changed its identity. They further said that it was not acceptable and it needed to be brought back to its glamorous origins.

Many personalities in the tennis world have spoken out against the current format of the Davis Cup. The way in which the tournament is played is not being enjoyed by many, and the Djoker is right with this crowd.

Novak Djokovic on the location of the Davis Cup

Before Serbia’s bout against Great Britain, Djokovic attended a press conference where he talked about the new format of the Davis Cup. There, he said that the better format would be somewhere in between the old one and the new one, but not for nations playing in the World Group. He further said that not being able to play in Serbia for so long was depriving the country of watching their players compete.

He said that he didn’t have the perfect format in his mind, but home-and-away ties are something that should make a return. Malaga has hosted the tournament for the last five years, which is not great, and it should travel as it is a global competition.
