World No. 7 Alexander Zverev has been brilliant, so far this season. The German played his first Grand Slam finals at the US Open 2020, won two titles at the ATP Cologne, and ended as the runner-up at the Rolex Paris Masters 2020. Speaking in an interview, 3-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray praised Zverev extensively for his consistency and temperament.
“I think the US Open was a breakthrough tournament for him. But, the final was a tough one…it was a tough match to lose. But since then, he has performed well. At Cologne, he won two titles. At Paris, he had a good run. He has obviously had some off-court issues which have not looked good for him. We’ll have to wait and see what will happen in the coming months,” said a cheerful Murray.
The British player was speaking on the show ‘Twitch’ hosted by none other than French tennis superstar Gael Monfils. In the introduction, Monfils appreciated Zverev for his late incredible performances and said that he could win a Slam in the upcoming year.
Murray clearly believed that after the US Open 2020, it was like Zverev had got wings. The two even met at the Cincinnati Masters 2020 in which Murray defeated Zverev in a close contest.
It’s really special when someone like Andy Murray not only praises you but follows your games and victories. Murray highlighted that Zverev won the ATP Finals a couple of years ago and has the potential to do it again.
“He is still performing very well on the court. Winning those two tournaments at Cologne and he had a big win against Rafa in Paris as well… He won the tour finals a few years ago… Let’s see, but he has played well in the last few weeks,” added the former World No. 1.
Clearly, Murray is quite impressed with Sascha. He certainly wishes the best for him and wants him to carry his momentum.
Alexander Zverev is due to face World No. 9 Diego Schwartzman in his next robin round at the ATP Finals 2020.
