Novak Djokovic‘s reign of terror on the Centre Court finally comes to an end. He went ten years without losing a single match on the most iconic court in the sport. The dominance fittingly is ended by the brightest prospect in tennis – Carlos Alcaraz. The world number 1 went from being the future of the sport to the present in next to no time.
After a tiresome Wimbledon final, the players were up and ready for the post-match presentation. The runner-up as always had to speak first and in a rather rare circumstance it was Novak Djokovic holding the plate today. In his speech, the Serb made a special Roger Federer reference.

Djokovic spoke about tough losses being a part of the game. He then took a trip down memory lane and recalled another iconic Wimbledon final. The Serb said, “I have to still be very grateful because I won many-many tight and close matches in the past here. To name a few, in 2019 against Roger in that final where I was two match points down. Maybe, I should have lost a couple of finals that I won so I think this is even-steven (laughs with the crowd).”

Many people believe that Djokovic should have lost the 2019 final against Roger Federer. The Swiss Maestro won more points and more games across five sets. However, he failed to close each of them out in tiebreaks. Djokovic ended up winning 7-6, 1-6, 7-6, 4-6, 13-12.

The runner-up speech is one of the hardest jobs in tennis and Novak Djokovic showed his vulnerable side when he saw his kids in the box. He couldn’t control his tears while acknowledging his kids and their support throughout the journey. However, the Serb also managed to sign off the speech on a positive note by acknowledging the crowd and the fans.
