Did you know Novak and Jelena Djokovic attended the same high school in their home country of Serbia? No doubt Jelena has many stories to tell about Novak Djokovic. Thus, back in June 2023, she remembered the days when they were young and struggling. The couple was barely getting by and going long-distance with their relationship was a strain for them. While the couple enjoys a lavish lifestyle today, their humble origins were in the war-torn Balkans and they have come a long way since.
How Novak and Jelena Djokovic fought circumstances to be together
Jelena Djokovic once said in an interview with ‘Hello Magazine’, “Us getting together was like science fiction almost, I was a student barely getting by, and he was a very young tennis player who also had no money to spare on expensive trips.”

“Airplanes were, at the time, something utterly out of our reach. We contrived and devised these plans how to meet, how to make our relationship work.” Clearly, a lot of planning went into it. When Jelena completed her studies, the couple moved together to Monte Carlo, where she job with an oil company. However, Jelena was almost always in the office to conduct her duties. “At certain point, Novak told me: ‘Darling, we cannot go on like this’,” she revealed.
She further shared that their relationship would have been impossible if she stayed with the company. Now she frequently travels with her husband and runs a charitable foundation in his name.
After Djokovic’s second successful Wimbledon adventure, he married Jelena in 2014 in Montenegro. Now the couple is a proud parent of two kids.

Jelena Djokovic’s unconditional support for her husband, Novak Djokovic!
While the world might call Jelena Djokovic one of the luckiest women on earth, she truly does a lot of hard work to support her husband’s successful tennis career. Previously Jelena Djokovic shared a photo of behind-the-scenes of her glamorous life. She was spotted tired in an armchair, giving a befitting reply to the trolls. Jelena Djokovic wrote with the picture, “When Novak plays in a different time zone, and finishes a match at 3am… this is how work day looks like. Now Jelena Djokovic couldn’t attend the 2024 Australian Open to support her husband due to her work and managing their children. But she let her support be known.
