The battle for parity between men and women in sports has a long history. Billie Jean King, an American tennis superstar, was the flag-bearer for women’s equality in tennis, followed by Serena Williams. She was a key figure in this movement after memorably triumphing in the ‘Battle of the Sexes.’

She then played a crucial part in establishing the Women’s Tennis Association and achieving equal prize money for women at the US Open. Along with her, Venus and Serena Williams have also contributed significantly to this battle. Serena’s husband Alexis Ohanian has also fervently supported women’s sports equality. However, not everyone seems to agree with this. Earlier, Ben Shapiro questioned gender equality in sports on Twitter.

Serena’s Fans are in a trolling mood for Ben Shapiro’s controversial tweet

Today, Ben Shapiro, the American commentator and host of ‘The Ben Shapiro Show’ took to Twitter and posted a rather controversial tweet. He tweeted against gender equality in sports by referring to Serena Williams as an example.

“The Left is now arguing that we shouldn’t separate sports by sex; they argue that men have no biological advantage over women in athletics. If women and men were not separated by sex in sports, nobody ever would have heard of Serena Williams. That’s not sexism. It’s reality.” tweeted the 38-year-old Shapiro.

In response to this tweet, there were many fans of Serena Williams and other tennis fans in particular who weren’t pleased one bit.

There was this fan who found the entire topic insensible and quoted, “Internet news boy.”

Here was another fan who seemed to agree with what Ben Shapiro said and quoted the actual Tweet saying, “There would be no women in sports at all. Except for the ones with a p**is of course.”

Similarly, there was this fan who found the entire scenario ridiculous and quoted “Who is arguing that? This is entirely fictional and absurd.”

Now this particular fan felt the funnier side of things and said, “Ben just makes shit up and then argues against it lol”

Another fan quoted saying, “Way to stick it to the patriarchy.”

This one particular fan seemed to be in favor of gender equality in sports and said, “Try to say that to @BillieJeanKing”

Here was this Serena Williams fan who clearly felt otherwise in terms of comparison with Serena and said, “Why did he pick like the one woman that would still absolutely dominate if she played against men”

Here was this fan who was quite excited about the men vs women clash and quoted, “I would LOVE to see the US National Men and Women go at it in a match. How about the WNBA All-Stars vs an NBA All-Star team? It’s beyond ludicrous.” 

The fans just kept reacting to the tweet, and there was this fan who quoted saying, “Hey Ben. Why don’t you go ahead and challenge Serena Williams to a tennis match and see how well that works out for your “biologically advantaged” man body?” 

The other fan got a bit sarcastic and said, “Ben’s trying to grow facial hair and I don’t think it’s going to work out how he expects it to”

Here in this case, the fan came up with an example from the field of boxing and quoted, “Ben. This whole clip was quite literally sexism. The belief system that one sex is inherently superior than the other. That’s not reality. Take boxing, there are plenty of men that would be UTTERLY destroyed in the ring against Christy Martin. She’s got 49 wins by KO. grow up.”

Serena Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian supports women’s sports

Alexis Ohanian took to Instagram to discuss his thoughts on the topic of investment in women’s sports. In one of his posts, the co-founder of Reddit said, “Normalize investing in women’s sports” in response to an article that discussed the individuals who own NWSL teams.

Ohanian is the primary investor in Angel City FC, which competes in the NWSL. And the ones who initially conceptualized and established the club are Natalie Portman, Kara Nortman, and Julie Uhrman.
