21-year-old Ukrainian tennis player, Dayana Yastremska has probably suffered the most during the current conflict between Russia and Ukraine. After hearing the news about the ban of Russian and Belarusian pliers from Wimbledon, Yastremska gave her opinion.
“How would I be able to play against those players at the tournament when all the world is talking about the war that is being fought against Ukraine? So I think the decision they are making is right. I think the decision they made is very respectful, they did the right thing. What they’ve done for Ukraine is the right thing. Other players (Ukrainian) are supporting it as well,” the Ukrainian star stated.

Meanwhile, ATP and WTA are clearly not happy with Wimbledon’s decision. According to them, players should be able to play based on their rankings, which Wimbledon didn’t follow. According to reports, both ATP and WTA could possibly take points away from Wimbledon. Upon hearing that, Yastremska said, “For sure if they take points away many players are going to start being very angry.”
Meanwhile, Yastremska is currently playing in the Madrid Open. After some decent qualifying rounds, she won her first-round match in the main draw. In the second round, she will face Marie Bouzkova.
Other players express their opinion about the ban
Another Ukrainian star, Elina Svitolina, made it clear that she wants all the players to play on the tour. However, she wanted all the Russian players to make a stand about the current situation in Russia and Ukraine. Whereas, 20-time Grand Slam, Novak Djokovic opposed the ban, as he thought politics should never interfere with sports.
