Aus vs Pak 2019: Australia Recall Cameron Bancroft, Joe Burns for the Test Series against Pakistan

Australia have announced their 14-member squad for the upcoming test series against Pakistan. Opener Marcus Harris has been left out from the Test squad and replaced by Queensland batsman Joe Burns for the upcoming two-match Test series against Pakistan. Alongside Harris, Usman Khawaja and Peter Siddle have been left out. On the other hand, Cameron Bancroft has also been recalled in the squad. The series will begin from November 21 in Brisbane.

Cameron Bancroft wasn’t a part of the original squad for Australia A’s practice game against Pakistan but he found himself in the squad due to the break of Nic Maddinson for his mental health. Batting at No. 6, he made a well-made 49 off 155 balls in Australia A’s first innings of 122.

Bancroft who played the first two Ashes Tests in England, he did pretty well in the Sheffield Shield with a modest — 57 runs in six innings at an average of 11.4. Matthew Wade has also justified his place in the middle-order with three half-centuries in six Shield innings in this season.

“Travis Head scored a hundred against a very good New South Wales attack just a few weeks ago and also offers the option of part-time off-spin,” Trevor Hohns, the national selector, said. “Matthew Wade was superb as a specialist batsman through last summer, had a solid Ashes Series with two hundreds and strong start to the current domestic season.”

“We anticipate Matthew and Travis will give us a strong middle order in support of the top four. Cameron Bancroft is someone who has the ingredients of what we believe makes a good Test cricketer and rounds out our batting group in the squad,” Hohns added.

Joe Burns has hit two half-centuries in three innings of this domestic season but failed to scores big in the practice match against Pakistan in Perth as well.

“David Warner and Steven Smith are in magical touch. We also welcome Joe Burns into the squad who we feel was unlucky to miss the Ashes squad. Joe’s record speaks for itself, he has Test hundreds on the board and has combined very well with David (Warner) in the past. We also like the feel of a right-hand, left-hand combination at the top of the order. Marnus’ performances in England and at the start of this season demanded his selection,” said Hohns.

Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins
Uncapped bowling all-rounder Michael Neser has earned his maiden call-up who will be there alongside pacemen Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc and James Pattinson. However, Nathan Lyon is the only specialist spinner for Australia in the squad whereas Tim Paine will continue to lead the team.
“We are blessed to have four of the best fast bowlers in the world challenging each other for spots and most importantly playing as a group. Cummins, Starc, Hazelwood and Pattinson are daunting pace prospects for any opposition, particularly at home. Michael Neser adds to that group with his ability move the ball both ways, giving the team another bowling option depending on the conditions,” Hohns added.
Squad: David Warner, Joe Burns, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Travis Head, Cameron Bancroft, Matthew Wade, Tim Paine, Nathan Lyon, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, James Pattinson, Mitchell Starc, Michael Neser
